Barbara Mae Jensen

1936 ~ 2023

Draper, UT - Barbara Mae Jensen 86, passed away in the early morning hours of September 5, 2023, with her daughter Lisa by her side, after suffering from a hemorrhagic stroke two weeks earlier. She was born in Twin Falls, Idaho on October 16, 1936, to Glenn Albert Blakely and Bernice Adelle Cox.

She spent her early years growing up in Oregon and then graduating from high school in Spokane WA, before moving to Pomona CA. Barbara met her sweetheart Edward Jensen at a Young Adult Dance in Riverside CA. They later married on January 5, 1957, in Las Vegas and were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple June 18, 1958. They lived in Salt Lake City for a short time where she worked at the Salt Lake Clinic as a medical secretary. They moved to the Bay Area when Ed got a job at Hewlett Packard and spent the next 41 years in the Bay Area before retiring to Draper UT.

She sold LeVoy’s lingerie and pajamas in the early 1960’s with her two children Brian and Lisa as her models. In the first part of the 1970’s she and Ed managed the "Golden Tee" miniature golf course in Castro Valley. In 1976 the family moved to San Jose to build the "Aloha Roller Palace" roller skating rink which would open in April of 1977. She was in charge of Public Relations for the Roller Rink, including booking school parties and fundraisers for charities such as Muscular Dystrophy. She left the Roller Rink in the 1980’s and went to work for The Regional Medical Center of San Jose (formerly Alexian Brothers Hospital) where she worked in Administration and the EKG department as a medical transcriptionist until she retired in 2000.

She enjoyed road tripping and went on many trips all over the country with her husband and daughter through the years.
She was a very active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served two full-time missions, one with her husband to the Oklahoma Tulsa Mission in 2002-2003 and a one-year mission in the Salt Lake City South Mission 2010-2011.

Barbara is preceded in death by her husband and her son Brian, her parents, her twin sister Beverly, and her younger sister Bette. She is survived by her daughter Lisa, grandchildren Lindsey (George) Nijmeh, Aaron (Laura) Jensen, and Andrew Jensen Carver; eight great grandchildren, Rachel, Kalila, Nikolas, Evelynn, Simon, Matilda, Jude, Phoebe, two brothers Gary (Debbie) Blakely and Greg (Alyson) Blakely.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Mountain Point 4th Ward, 498 E Hollow Creek (14085 South) in Draper. So sorry to hear that Barbara has passed. I did her hair for years and love to hear her stories about her family. I really seeing her every week. She was such a sweet person!
