Thomas Franklin Hansen

1928 ~ 2013

On Saturday, August 3rd, Thomas F. Hansen passed through the veil to be with his beloved Beverly.

Tom was born on May 15, 1928, to Harvey Delome and Elva Blackburn Hansen. He attended Emerson Elementary, East and South High, and Westminster College. He later left college to join the Marines. After his 2 year service and an honorable discharge, he returned home to the family business, Hanco Furniture, where he had worked since high school. He married Betty Mae Renshaw, and she blessed him with two sons: Paul and Mark. After a 5 year marriage, Betty passed away in 1959, and Tom became a single dad, raising two sons, and working at Hanco. It was then that he met Beverly Jean Boardman Taft, a single parent herself, with four children: David, Karen, Steven and Shauna. They joined their families, and moved to a beautiful home in the Avenues. After the family business was sold, Tom began a successful career in Real Estate. In their later years, Tom and Bev chose to be sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.

Tom was an avid antique collector, cyclist, and Park City aficionado. He purchased a dilapidated old home in Old Town, and carefully restored it to its former Victorian glory. The family would retreat there on weekends, for skiing and relaxing. Some of the antiques from the home are now housed in the Park City Museum.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Elva Hansen; brother Richard Hansen; sister Dorothy Hansen Woolf; second wife Betty Mae Hansen, daughter Karen Taft, son David Taft, granddaughter Anna Josie Lassig and the light of his life, Bev.

He is survived by his sister Nan Hansen (Manny) Floor; children Paul and Mark Hansen, Steven (Kandice) Taft and Shauna Taft (George) Venturino. He is also survived by his grandchildren Kurt and Zak Lassig, Stephanie and Josh Beckman, one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Sunrise of Sandy, where Tom spent his last two years.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, August 8th at 11:00 a.m., at Larkin Mortuary on 260 East South Temple. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 p.m., at the 11th Avenue entrance of the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
