Bernice J. Mayhew Baich, 99, passed away peacefully, on June 22, 2023, surrounded by several family members. She was a devoted, wife, mother, and Nana.

Bernice (Bea) was born on March 19, 1924, to Shelby Mayhew and Elma Jenson Mayhew, in Talmage, Utah, and grew up on their farm with her three sisters, Donna, Aenona (Nona), and Elaine, in Utahn, Utah.

She married her sweetheart, Dwain Baich, in South Carolina, on October 26, 1944. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1963. Together they raised their family in East Millcreek and five years ago, she moved to her retirement center.

As a young girl, at the age of 18, Bea moved to Salt Lake City, to work and help support her family that lived back in Utahn, after her father had an accident. She modeled for many years, then most of her working career, she was a waitress at Fairmont Bowling Café and in Sugarhouse at Nero’s Restaurant. She was also a great cook! We always looked forward to a good meal at her home.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had many neighbors, friends, and ward members that meant a lot to her. She served over 20 years as the ward librarian and loved that calling. She was so grateful for the many neighbors and ward members that helped and served her, after Dwain passed away.

She will be greatly missed by her son, Michael (Cathy), daughter, Colleen (Newell, deceased), her loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and sister, Elaine (Jay, deceased). She is preceded in death by her husband Dwain, her parents, Shelby and Elma, and her sisters, Donna (Ken), and Nona (Crock).

A viewing will be held prior to her funeral on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, from 9:00-10:30. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 and be held at the Mesa Park Ward, 1970 East Viscounti Drive, Sandy, Utah. The Interment will be at Mountain View Memorial Estates, 3115 E. Bengal Blvd., Cottonwood Heights, Utah

A special thanks to Copper Creek Retirement Center and hospice, for their care of Bea the last five years.
