Betsy Nielson Lamb McOmie

1934 ~ 2023

Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully on August 24, 2023, from age-related illnesses.

Those who knew her understand what a special person she was. Betsy was born in Riverton, Utah on January 7, 1934, to Aileen Steadman Nielson and Marton Nielson. Betsy grew up thereafter in Riverton and Bluff, Utah, and married Dal Lamb on August 23, 1951. They raised two children together, Jody Lamb (Howe) and Josh Lamb, who both describe their childhood as thrilling with many days spent traveling, camping, boating, swimming, and waterskiing. Betsy was a great slalom water- skier. Dal passed away in 1987 and Betsy married Bill McOmie two years later on August 13, 1989, who has been her companion for the past 34 years. Betsy had known Bill since she was a child and he had been very close with her family and was also friends with Dal.

Betsy was very intelligent and a voracious reader with a lifelong goal of pursuing a college education. It wasn't until later, when her children were in high school, that Betsy pursued this goal. She first completed her GED, then enrolled at the University of Utah, graduated with a bachelor's degree in education, then went on to earn a master's degree in educational media coordination. Many individuals were inspired by Betsy's commitment to education, and she often encouraged others to attend college.

Betsy worked for Jordan School District as a teacher, librarian, and media coordinator for 20 years and retired. She loved and had a great rapport with her students, and they loved her back.

Betsy and Bill had many great times travelling together and meeting new and interesting people. For several years they lived winters in Yuma, Arizona, and resided in Sandy, Utah in the summer months. Betsy loved to garden and became quite proficient at this avocation which she enjoyed with Bill. Betsy and Bill both enjoyed jazz music and had fun attending live concerts in Yuma and other venues.

Everyone who knew Betsy loved her. People understood she sincerely cared about them. Betsy had a clever sense of humor, was fun to be with and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Dal, siblings Donald, David, Michael, and Peggy. She is survived by her husband Bill, her children Jody Howe and Josh Lamb, and many beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Please join us for a memorial service at 11:00am on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at The Chateau at The Rose Shop, 1910 East Dimple Dell Road, (10600 South), Sandy, UT.
