Our dear friend, sister and aunt, Betty Jean Schewerda Marshall, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2024, from complications due to pneumonia. She was born September 11, 1955, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the third child of Waldemar and Waltraut Schewerda. As a small child she underwent open heart surgery and had complications all of her life. She graduated from South High School. She worked for 40 years for Grand Central, Fred Meyer and Smith’s Marketplace. Betty loved animals, especially her beloved cats, Summer and Tiger. She enjoyed gardening tomatoes and beautiful flowers. She liked to do crafts. In her later years she could be found watching the BYU and Hallmark channels. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and delighted in attending the temple.

For many years until the end, Betty was taken under the caring wing of Gary White. He was a generous, devoted friend, and always made sure that Betty was cared for, her bills were paid, and she was always invited to family gatherings. She was a member of his family and we all will miss her. For many years Betty loved the weekly lunches with Gary, Mimi Lim, and Craig and Darlene Hunter. She is survived by her sister Judith Kay (Mark) Taylor of Atlanta, Georgia; brother Ronald E. Schewerda of Portland, Oregon; and nephew Michael Spencer (Ariel) Taylor of Oakland, California.

We are grateful for our knowledge of the plan of salvation and know that Betty has been taken home to our loving Heavenly Father. We will sorely miss her and look forward to the day we can see her again. Our sincere thanks to Legacy of Park Lane Assisted Living and Memory Care, and Inspiration Hospice for their love and service to Betty. We appreciate the tenderness and compassionate care that was given. She knew these dedicated workers loved her and Betty considered them her family.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 3:00 in the afternoon at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City, Utah.

Guestbook/Condolences

Betty and I were best friends in elementary school, we've spoken here and there through the years. Betty was a kind and gentle person, seeing this makes me very sad, I wish we would have stayed in touch.
