Beverly Butler Skordas

1935 ~ 2023

Our Mother, Beverly Skordas passed peacefully on a beautiful Sunday morning next to the love of her life.

Born Beverly Butler on January 2, 1935 to wonderful parents Ira L. (Bud) Butler and Edna Koplin Butler. She had a younger brother Dennis Butler and younger sisters Barbara Bird and Brenda Barber.

Early in her life, Mom discovered a love for music, especially the piano and organ. So, it was no accident that she fell for the drummer of the band that played at her (Granite) High School dance. The drummer, William (Bill) Skordas had an eye for her as well and asked her out. They have remained together ever since. On the morning of her passing, they sat together, held hands and gazed into each other's eyes, exactly as they had done 70 years earlier.

Mom and Dad were married on March 7, 1954 and their marriage lasted over 69 years. They had four children: Cyndi (Dennis) King, Greg (Rebecca) Skordas, Doug (Esther) Skordas and Wendi (Rick) Perkins. Mom had 10 grandkids and 19 "greats". (And she handmade personal Afghan baby blankets and Christmas stockings for every one of them).

Mom was always welcoming at her home. She and Dad hosted Easter and Christmas every year. She loved cooking for her family. Whether it was a Thanksgiving feast, or a Sunday lunch, Mom never let you leave her home hungry. And she would not let you leave without taking something home. Her Greek Kourabiedes were to die for.

Besides her family, Mom loved her music. If you ever had a chance to hear Mom play the piano or organ, you know she wasn't shy, either. Many a Sunday School chorister asked her to "dial it back" so you could hear the choir; but Mom would have none of that. She knew what the audience was there to hear. She had this amazing gift of being able to pick up a piece of sheet music, sit down and play it as though she'd been practicing for months. She absolutely loved playing in church and that continued until her passing. Even recently, Dad would roll her up to the organ in a wheelchair so that she could play. And performing made her feel young again. She played piano for, and later directed the Allegro Chorus. For 5 decades, they played at churches and community groups all over the State.

Mom is survived by her husband Bill, her children Cyndi, Greg, Doug and Wendi, 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, her two sisters Barbara and Brenda and sister-in-law Vi. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Edna, and her brother Dennis.

A viewing will be held at Larkin Sunset Gardens, at 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) in Sandy, Utah on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 beginning at 12:30 PM. A short service will follow at the same location that afternoon at 2 PM followed by her interment.

I'm so sorry to miss celebrating Bevs life as I was in Alaska and returned too late. I Adore this woman. She radiated enthusiasm, creativity, hope and charity. She was my anchor during our sojourn together during the Crescent Stake musical, Journey By Faith. And indeed, it was that. When others didn't show up, or Gave up, she was there, thinking thru options, adjusting to rehearsal schedules, musically adjusting scores, being amazing. She even came to rehearsals and played with a broken shoulder!! What? Playing with her left arm better than I could with both. She embodied the musical's theme, "like our ancestors, we can do hard things." She had a great laugh, radiance, talent and heart. I'll miss her and love her so much. Margo Watson
