I will always remember the thing you taught me... I remember you taking me on adventures in the locksmith truck to help people get into their vehicles... It was such a good memory I wish I would have told you thank you

Obituary
Brian Douglas Creighton passed peacefully on August 16, 2026 at the age of 76.
Brian was born February 28, 1950, in Oceanside, California. He had an engineer’s mind and the uncanny ability to build or repair just about anything. Brian was the definition of handy. If something needed fixing, Brian could probably figure it out. If a project needed finishing—well, that was for someone else to figure out.
He served our country in the Air Force. He also served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in New York City. His membership in the church eventually led him to the divine—or as we call her: Mom—when he attended BYU and met Lori Jean Thurman.
The two married and spent more than 50 years together. Lori stayed by Brian’s side and supported him all the way to the end, through all the good years and the hard years, without wavering.
Brian’s humor was so dry that you might wonder whether he was joking. Rest assured, he was. He had a sharp wit and appreciated irreverent hilarity. He was beloved by his family, which includes all the wonderful people at Glen’s Key, Lock & Safe, where he spent his entire career and became Utah’s first Certified Master Locksmith.
Brian grew up swimming in the ocean and riding motorcycles in the desert. He often found peace being outside and in nature. He was the self-appointed ecclesiastical leader of the church of the backyard and over the years his congregation consisted of a menagerie of pets and wild animals that were inexplicably devoted to Brian.
Brian is survived by his angel of a wife, Lori, and their five children: Cari (Gary), Jessie, Coty (Merritt), Ryan (Randi), and Lisa (Kasey).
He is also survived by a dozen grandchildren: Ryan (Katelyn), Ethne C., Remei, Alex, Evy, Jester, Hayden, Bridger, Sawyer, Ethne D., Autumn, and Nolan.
Brian leaves behind a family who will miss his irreverent humor, his ingenuity, his stubbornness, and the softer side he didn’t always advertise.
His family has defiantly gone against his wishes to be put in a shoebox in the backyard and will hold a memorial service and celebration of life on Thursday, August 27, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E South Temple St., Salt Lake City, Utah.
Tributes
I’m sorry I wasn’t very familiar with this great man, maybe met him a time or two, but I do know that he raised a wonderful family.
I’ve always had so much admiration and love for his son Ryan, who was my son’s best friend since they were boys. When you raise children like that, it says a lot about a man.
Rest in peace Brian, knowing you have a great legacy!
Brian loved being outdoors, if it was cold he would put his coat on and came outside. He liked to go by Ann Browns house and their was a ditch there and he would sit there and listen to the water run. He liked to come up our driveway and see what the neighborhood was doing. He loved the flagpole with the red, white and blue lights on it.we will miss him.
Brian, saved me by getting me back into my locked car many of times. One that I remember the most is when I had my first daughter she was a month old. I got out of the car to get her out and the doors looked behind me. It was the middle of winter and my car was running. Brian to the rescue I was so thankful! You will be missed! My heart goes out to Lori and the kids ❤️🙏
