Brita Marie Aune Peavey born October 6, 1977 to Frank and Becky Aune in Salt Lake City, UT returned to her Heavenly Father peacefully in her home surrounded by friends and family after a successful trial with cancer.
She was the third child of 5. Right in the middle where she got beat up and loved on both sides.
This great family prepared her with the ability to show empathy, humility, patience, kindness and love to all those she met. Her strong foundation in life was her family and the community in which she was raised and is a testament to the wonderful people that surrounded her in her youth.
Brita had a natural ease and confidence about her and a subtle smile that made everyone feel love and accepted whenever she was around. Her radiant crystal-clear blue eyes where stunning and you knew she was special.
During her youth she did many different things, including learning baton with her sisters from their Mother. This skill led her to pursuing dance. She was a beautiful and graceful dancer and had many opportunities to express and share this love. She went onto teaching dance to many little girls at various studios in Salt Lake and Summit County.
While exploring dance she was developing a lifelong love of music. She was self-taught on guitar and inspiration from her Father playing “grandma got run over by a reindeer” was all the inspiration she needed. With a handmade guitar from a childhood neighbor as a gift, she wrote many beautiful songs and made beautiful music with many people who were always amazed at her angelic voice and ability to create melodies that gave comfort and solace. She had the opportunity to record two albums with her band Ele but kept her later work just for her and her family. After she had children, she would entertain them with personal songs and inside jokes. Like all great musicians she would express herself between the bitter and sweet and she would add humor to any situation. Her musical ability to write songs came like waves and she was deep water.
She graduated Cum-Laude from the University of Utah in 2002 with a BS Degree in Health Promotion and Education.
During this time, she met and married Ethan Peavey of Durango, CO on August 13th, 2001. It was love at first site, at least it was for Ethan. How could he have had a chance with those blue eyes seeing right through him and yet she said YES! If he married up, she was the moon. They had many adventures together and their love for each other was evident with how they laughed, talked, explored and cared for one another over the course of 20 years. There favorite place to visit together was Norway which is where much of her family ancestral roots came from and she would celebrate these special cultural traditions with her husband, children and family and created a very special culture of her own. They had the privilege to attend the 2002 Winter Olympic Opening ceremony which in her mind was the culmination of everything wonderful about diverse cultures of the world and the singular earthly celebration that we are all brothers and sisters.
After college she had the opportunity to help with researching children with autism for the state of Utah. This job put her great analytical skills to use and she helped many state school districts identify learning and reading challenges for students and help provide them with tools and resources to succeed.
She made the choice to step back from her career and focus on being a Mother, a role she was proud of the most. She loved being a mother and found that it was her greatest honor and privilege. She was completely devoted to her children and gave everything to them. She successfully fought cancer for ten years to ensure that her influence would be felt by her children throughout their lives. Their love for her is a testament to the bond they have with her and is reflected in their own unique qualities and gifts.
She was able to enjoy more time with her children because she was involved at her children’s school to assist as a reading specialist using many of the skills, she had learned from experience. This role would allow her to help many children find success and they loved her for it, and she loved them back.
Her sense of humor and wit showed the depth of her intelligence and empathy for others. She could carry a conversation with anyone and make others feel special and valued.
The words are in black and white, but the vastness of the space between is Brita.
That’s what we lost, for now, with Brita Peavey moving forward so soon but she was a head of us any way. We will try and catch up.
She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend.
She will be missed greatly and honored every day with the impact she had on so many.
We love you; we miss you
Funeral services will be Thursday, August 19, 2021, Eagle Crest 7th Ward, 14919 S. Eagle Crest Dr., Draper at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior. A visitation will be held Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Road, Sandy from 6 to 8:00 p.m.

My heart goes out to Brita’s family; she was an amazing force for good. She was always so welcoming and inclusive of anyone with whom she interacted. She truly was admired and loved by all that knew her…and deservedly so.

I'm very sorry for your loss. I haven't spoken with Brita since we had classes together at the University of Utah. She was a wonderful person and I suppose I'm one of the lucky few to have a copy of one of her albums (I'd love to hear the second one). I only heard of her passing through an amazing combination of coincidences that makes me feel as though I should say something to make sure you know she is remembered by the many people whose lives she touched.
