Jayne Lynette Shaffer Stott

1961 ~ 2018

On December 22, 2018, Jayne passed away peacefully in her own bed, surrounded by family, from complications of scleroderma, liver disease, and other health issues. Even through her intense sufferings, she was faithful like Job, kept her covenants, and endured to the end.

Born May 4, 1961 to Marlin Ralph and Alice Anne Goodsell Shaffer, Jayne had an incredible memory of past events, quick-witted humor, and was honest to the core. She was a hard-worker and empathetic to those who were less-fortunate or down-trodden.

Jayne had a love for animals, especially her two cats. She enjoyed music and had a beautiful, sweet voice. She loved to sing with family around the piano, with her father accompanying. Although she began taking flute lessons, her little hands suffered too many afflictions, including two finger amputations, to continue this talent.

Jayne enjoyed all aspects of nature, including the fall colors in the canyons and sunny, warm days. She liked to be active and would take long walks as her health allowed. When she was unable to walk, she would enjoy "walks" in a wheelchair around the neighborhood.

After graduation from East High School, Jayne attended both the University of Utah and LDS Business College. Most of her years of employment were at the Salt Lake Clinic, where she worked diligently before her medical condition required her to stay at home.

On July 29, 2000, Jayne married Galen Grant Stott in the Jordan River Temple. Galen loved Jayne deeply, and devoted the last several months to be her full-time caretaker. The final days of Jayne's life were very tender moments for Galen. As her health worsened, she would need to be spoon-fed and lifted up out of bed by him. Through the years, she enjoyed his frequent foot rubs.

Although she and Galen had no children of their own, Jayne thrilled in the accomplishments of her many nieces and nephews, sometimes sending special gifts and notes. She would save their hand-made greeting cards on her refrigerator, and often used social media to encourage them.

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jayne loved the Gospel and served in various church callings. She enjoyed teaching in Relief Society and gave her all in preparing the lessons.

Survived by her husband, mother, and siblings: Stephen (Alice-Ann) Shaffer, Lori Shaffer, Susan (Daniel) Anderson, Andrea (Doug) Coleman, and John Shaffer; loving in-laws, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved father, best-friend sister, Carol, and precious nephews, Matthew Marchant and Ian Milliner.

The funeral will be held Thursday, December 27, 2018, at 12:00 pm at the Twelfth Ward, Salt Lake Central Stake, 630 East 100 South, Salt Lake City, Utah. A private family gathering will precede the funeral.

The interment will follow at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.

The family offers special thanks to the many medical professionals who so lovingly cared for Jayne throughout her life.
