Ruth Juber Klein

1923 ~ 2018

Ruth Juber Klein passed away on January 25, 2018 at the age of 94. Ruth was born in Park Rapids, Minnesota on August 18, 1923 to John and Mabel Juber. She was one of seven children. Having been born in the depression, her family moved often so her father could find work. They eventually settled in Valley Springs, South Dakota where she attended high school. She actively participated in school plays, speech and debate and liked to dance. She enjoyed playing the saxophone and qualified for valedictorian. In 1941, she left South Dakota to attend BYU where she began studies in elementary education. She stayed for about a year then her parents asked her to return home. She did but knew she would not be staying. She moved to California to live with friends and worked as a pipe fitter. In 1943, she decided to join her older brothers in the service and enlisted in the Navy. Ruth was assigned as gunnery instructor including weapons proficiency and aircraft identification. She was always very proud of her Navy experience. She enjoyed participating in the Veteran's Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. in 2015. She married Albert Klein on April 21, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple. They had 4 children. As the children were growing up, Ruth worked as a school secretary in the Salt Lake District and then returned to BYU to complete her degree. She taught third and sixth grades. Ruth was very talented in sewing, cooking, painting and ceramics. She also crocheted beautiful blankets and donated many to church and charities. In 1980, she had a stroke which left her with blepherspasm, an eye problem causing partial blindness. She bravely dealt with it for the rest of her life. Ruth was a member of the Blind Veteran's Association and received their national award for service to her local chapter. She loved to travel with her husband and friends and stay at their cabin in Park City.

Ruth is survived by her four children, Janice, Sharon Neyme, Scott and Kent, brothers David and Gene Juber and sister Arlene Harris. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert and her siblings Clarence, George and Delbert.
