Virginia Louise Moody Denna

1940 ~ 2020

Virginia Louise Moody was born on April 10, 1940 in Gridley, California. She married the love of her life at the age of 17 years and 17 days, making good on a promise that she made as a child when she first met Glenn Denna as her parents picked up the young boy hitchhiking in Susanville, California. The young couple moved around a lot early on in their marriage following Glenn's construction trade. They had 7 children before settling down in Gardnerville, Nevada and then had an additional 5. She was officially recognized as mother of the year and was presented the award by Jim Nabors. It was her only goal in life to have and love her children.

To help augment her family's income, she became a school bus driver for the Douglas County School District, which became very important when Glenn was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's disease. She cared for her husband at home, with the help of her children, until his passing on October 2, 2000. Virginia excelled as a driver and won many awards in annual bus rodeo competitions. She loved playing on league volleyball teams and enjoyed softball games with her large family.

She was passionate about her family and the gospel. She served as a full time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Croatia and ended her mission a little early due to a broken arm. Afterwards, she served faithfully and joyfully as a temple worker in the Jordan River and Oquirrh Mountain Temples until her health no longer allowed her to do so. If you were meeting Virginia for the first time, she would usually open with "are you a member of the church?". Her upbeat demeanor and optimism were a source of inspiration and/or irritation to all that had the good fortune of knowing her.

With the joy of having 12 children, she became deadly accurate with footwear.

Virginia passed from this life surrounded by her children and grandchildren on January 4, 2020. She is preceded in death by her parents Alma Moody and Louise DeChesne, brothers Dennis, Richard, and Robert, husband Glenn Denna and daughter Julie Denna. She is survived by her sisters Margaret, Gloria, Janice, Laura, and Elizabeth, children Kelli, Kim, Janice, Glenn, Guss, Virginia, Max, Spencer, Samuel, Louise, and Crista and more grandchildren and great grandchildren that can be comfortably counted in a given afternoon. She is loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
