Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt slipped peacefully from this life to the next surrounded by her family on June 13, 2014, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Born on April 22, 1929 to Andrew A. and Lizzie Isabell Mills Easton in Salt Lake City, Utah. She met her husband Boyd R. Child in an English class at East High School. After many years of dating they were married on May 4, 1950, and the marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings.
Mom was very proud to have been a sorority sister at the U of U in Alpha Chi Omega. She graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. She received many awards from the Utah Swimming Association.
Joan was a constant learner, always taking classes, going to education week at BYU and loved reading. Talented in crocheting, gardening, but truly loved to cook and candy making. She loved to decorate for each and every holiday. Mother loved to spend time with her family and grandchildren. Serving others, whether family, friend, neighbor or acquaintance was her mission.
Mother had a deep love of her Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ. Her strong testimony was gained through years of physical trials but that only made her stronger in her Faith.
Survived by her husband Boyd, 5 children; Steven (Dee Anna), Cathleen (Dennis), James (Penny), Joseph and Daniel; 7 grandchildren; 12 Ω great grandchildren; and her brother Donald Easton. Preceded in death by her parents, and her sisters Carol and Renee.
Services will be held Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the Foothill 6th Ward, 2215 E. Roosevelt Ave. Viewings will be Tuesday from 6-8 PM at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E. 1300 S., and Wednesday from 10-10:45AM at the Ward. Interment will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
