Jared Leon Dunn

1931 ~ 2016

Jared Leon Dunn passed away on September 30, at the age of 85 due to causes incident to age.

Jerry was born January 7, 1931 in Salt Lake City to Leon James Dunn and Evah Inez Trejo. He was raised with sisters Lora, Judy and Evalynne, attending local schools, graduating from South High School. He was a common man who accomplished uncommon things. After high school he served a 33 month LDS mission in Mexico, the birthplace of his mother. After his mission, he married Shirley Jean Turner, his high school sweetheart and was drafted shortly thereafter to serve in the Korean Conflict. While stationed in Germany, he traveled to Spain with Shirley to re-establish personal contact with the family of his maternal grandfather, Meliton Gonzalez Trejo, the original translator of the Book of Mormon into Spanish.

He was the first Bishop of the Crescent 3rd Ward at the age of 32. He received a marketing degree from LDS Business College and worked many full and part time jobs to provide for the needs of his family, including time as an early morning seminary instructor. His church service included service in the Cumorah (Midvale Utah) Spanish speaking branch, serving as a missionary at Temple Square and performing Family History and Extraction.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, his children Jared Jr., James (Marianne) and Sheri (Kirk) Ebert, his sister Evalynne, 21 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and many other beloved relatives. He is preceded in death by his sisters Lora and Judy and twin grandsons, Jacob and Daniel.

As a family we express our thanks for the many kindnesses shown Jerry and Shirley by family, friends, and health care providers in the last days of his life.
