Barry Wayne Hickman was born November 5, 1951 and passed away June 6, 2016 from complications of West Nile Virus. Parents are mother Kathryn McAllister Jones, father Gerald M. Hickman. Barry attended Hillcrest High School. He loved music, fishing, repairing anything and Wendover, Nevada. He married Sharon Poloni in 1988 later divorced. He had two beautiful step daughters Emily and Melissa.
Barry always loved to fish and hunt. He absolutely loved riding on motorcycles. One of his favorite musicians was Stevie Nicks along with Fleetwood Mac. He enjoyed listening to Stevie and watching her DVD. He enjoyed country music as well. He was gifted in music and when he was young learned to play the Accordion. Barry was a great story teller; he could talk your leg off. I think that may run in the family.
Barry lived with his Aunt Betty and Uncle Les when he was very young until around the age of 14 years old. He adored his Aunt Betty and Grandma Hickman.
He lived in Spokane, Washington for a few short periods in his life with his mother, her husband and their other children presiding there. Mom and Darrell owned a doughnut shop in Spokane so he spent a lot of time there. Of course there are many great stories from his life in Spokane as well as stories from Salt Lake. He was crazy about his mother and Darrell.
One of his closest friends here in his home in Sandy was a dog named Snickers. Snickers would jump gates to be with Barry, sneak into his bed at night and steal whatever he was eating when she could.
Barry was living in Fairview Care Center when he passed. We want to thank each ofthe care givers for the love, kindness and loving care he was shown daily for the past 19 months. He received wonderful care from Inspiration Hospice as well, thanks Jamie and other nurse for your love. Barry enjoyed his visits with Doug and his special Labrador Retriever.
We have a special puppy of Barry\s that we will continue to love and raise for him, she is 10 months old, a Shih Tzu and her name is Akira.
Please keep Barry in your heart always.
He is survived by mother Kathryn, father Gerald, siblings Mark (Celesta), Kristie Hyde (Dave), Kevin (Jodie), Sue Teague (Dave), Bill Jones (Deanna) Katie Youngren (Karl), Tracy Jones, close nephews Jeff Hyde, Steve Hyde and son Eli, niece Wendy Hyde Shaw (John) their children Kayla, David and Lydia. Numerous other nieces and nephews, aunts and cousins. Dear friends Karen Snow and Whitney Rasmussen. Preceded in death by step mother Marjean, step father Darrell Jones and brother Scott Hickman.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Road (10600 S.) in Sandy. Viewing will be Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the mortuary.
