Marjorie Lou Clark Alvey

Marjorie Lou Clark Alvey

Marjorie Lou Clark Alvey passed away on June 28, 2018 at the age of 93. She was an exceptional woman who lived and embodied the virtues of family, education, charity, and faith until the very end. She was deeply loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. Marge was born in SLC, UT on May 5, 1925, to Jennie Ruth Milburn and Frank Roundy Clark. She married her sweetheart Raymond Fuller Alvey on April 20, 1945 in the Salt lake Temple and together they raised seven children. They celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary last April before his passing on June 2, 2018. She graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Home Economics, commenting often that she did so without ever taking a cooking class. After raising her family, she graduated from the LDS Institute of Religion and began a 20 year career working there. Some of her many talents included sewing beautiful clothes, crocheting, making one of kind Christmas stockings, gardening, and a life of church service in ward and stake callings. She and Ray served missions at the LDS Welfare and Employment Centers. She also found time for reading, tennis, bridge, trips to Lake Powell, and traveling the world with dear friends. She's one of a kind.

Marge was the first born of two daughters born to Frank and Ruth Clark. Her sister Pat was two years younger and they remained close throughout their lives. When Marge was nine years old, her parents divorced, and Marge and Pat lived with her mother in Salt Lake. While her mother was away working on her doctorate degree, Marge would often live with her Aunt Relia and her grandma Milburn. Her father remarried and had two additional sons, Bob and Jerry Clark. Jerry and his wife Barb have been a great light in both Marge and Ray's life.

Marge's romance with Ray started at East High School and continued throughout their life. They were married while Ray was serving in the Air Force during World War II. She served her country by supporting him in his service, and continued to support him in whatever they did. When the war was over, they settled back in Salt Lake City and in 1954 purchased a home on Bryan Circle where they raised their seven children.

Marge always loved a good party, whether it was at her home or at the home of a friend. She enjoyed being with friends playing bridge, crocheting, playing tennis, boating, or just visiting outside in the circle. Both Marge and Ray loved traveling with their dear friends Carl and Deon. Her friends were treasures in her life and brought her great joy.

Marge is survived by her brothers; Bob Clark, Jerry Clark (Barbara); children Clark Alvey (Nan), Bert Alvey (Shelly), Marjorie Rae Deeds (Bob), David Alvey (Angela); 22 grandchildren; and 38 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, husband Ray Alvey, sister Patricia Olsen, and children Francine Staker and John Alvey.

Funeral services will be held on Friday July 6, 2018 at noon, at the Foothill LDS Chapel, 2215 E. Roosevelt Ave. SLC, UT. A viewing will be held Friday morning from 10:30 ‚ 11:45 am at the church prior to services. Internment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 S. Highland Drive, SLC, UT.
