Patricia Jean McCourt Mathis

1935 ~ 2016

Patricia Jean McCourt Mathis our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully in her home on August 2, 2016. She waged a long dignified and courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

Patricia was born in Price UT to Thomas R. and Gertrude M. McCourt. She married John Stoker Mathis on April 9, 1954 in Sunnyside, UT; later solemnized November 8, 1957 in the Los Angeles Temple. Theirs is a great love story. Pat and John supported one another unconditionally. They welcomed 5 children into their home.

Patricia was very musically talented. She was asked to go to New York to pursue a musical career. She chose instead to be an incredible wife, partner, mother and friend. Patricia sang in the Tabernacle Choir for 21 years. She taught all of her children to love music. Pat loved to travel. She and John visited many places in the world with the Tabernacle Choir, and through their business Abbey Carpet.

Patricia and John loved being together and being with their children and grandchildren. The Scofield Cabin was a favorite spot. They loved boating, fishing, sporting events, dinners, holiday gatherings, or any activity together as a family. Pat was a voracious reader, completing thousands of books. She and John read to all their children and grandchildren.

Survived by Steve (Kari) Mathis-son, Susie (Brian) Kochevar, Linda (Scott)Gorringe-daughters, Valene Jensen, Lorretta DiAmico-sisters, and Max (Pat)McCourt-brother. Pat has nineteen grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren, many beloved in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Pat was preceded in death by: John Mathis-husband, Brian George Mathis-son, , Sherrie Ann Mathis Gentry-daughter, and her parents.

A viewing will be held Friday, August 5, 2016 from 6-8 pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah 84092. The funeral will be held at the same location Saturday August 6, 2016 at 10:00 am with a viewing from 9:00-9:45 am

Interment will be at the Price City Cemetery at 2:00 pm
