  • Our beloved grandfather, father, brother, husband, and friend, Carl Voyles transitioned from this life on August 18, 2021, in Lehi, Utah. Carl was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on May 9, 1943, to Walter and Mona (Davidsen) Voyles. Carl grew up in Sugarhouse where he attended Highland High School and graduated in 1961. After graduation, Carl went to work for Wheeler Machinery where he worked side-by-side with his father. He then joined the U.S. Army as a Military Police officer, later serving his state and country as a Utah National Guard Reservist. At this time, Carl began his 28 year career with the Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD). During his time with SLCPD, Carl worked in many capacities; however, most of his career was spent serving as a detective. Following his retirement from SLCPD, Carl work for 13 years as a fraud investigator for Workers Compensation Fund of Utah.
Carl had few passions in his life including golf, riding ATVs, and his family. He is survived by his wife Susan Owen Voyles, his daughter, Stacey Lowe, his son, Dave Voyles, and his six grandchildren: Creighton, Karsen, Aunalee, Christie, Kaaden, and Kelson. Also survived by one sister, Lois Johnson, and nieces and nephews.
Carl had the ability to always tell an amazing story and spent many hours creating Brigham Street Mysteries for his kids and grandchildren to enjoy. Carl had a huge heart and always showed great love and kindness to everyone he met. He was a true hero to his children and grandchildren. Carl will be missed and never forgotten.
A visitation will take place Wednesday, August 25, 2021, from 6-8 in the evening at Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy at 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 So.).
