Carol Evelyn Giffen Berchtold passed peacefully from this earth on Friday night October 15, 2021. She was born on July 23, 1935 to Everett Harry Giffen and Pearly Evelyn Hodges in Independence, Missouri. She had 11 siblings and she was the last surviving sibling.

Her youth was spent in Missouri and she had a lifelong friend Betty North that survives her. She attended a New Years Eve dance on December 31, 1953 where she fell in love with our Dad Leonard Don Berchtold. They were married on February 17, 1954 in the Mission Home. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah temple. They celebrated 65 years of marriage together.

She was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in numerous positions and callings throughout her lifetime. She was always serving and helping those around her. She served tirelessly providing compassionate care to all those she came in contact with. Although she had many of her own personal heartaches she was always cheerful and had a smile and carried on. She and Dad served missions to Missouri and both Perth and Sydney Australia as well as in the Salt Lake Temple.

She had ten children all but one who survive her, Robert (Sandy) Berchtold, Debra Berchtold, Carol Ann Kirkham, Kevin Berchtold, William Don Berchtold (deceased), Andy Berchtold, Jenae (Charles) Osman, Julie (Craig) Hulse, Ruth (Jeff) Brown, and Tom (Julie) Berchtold.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at the 29th ward building at 531 North 100 West Brigham City, Utah 84302. A viewing will be held prior from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Mom will be laid to rest in the Brigham City cemetery next to Dad who preceded her in death.
