Carol recently returned to her heavenly home, after a courageous battle with cancer. Just like she dealt with all experiences in life, she managed her final illness with strength and grace, giving her extra time to spend with loved ones. Her last few days were spent in the hospital visiting and laughing with family and friends, reminding them of their best qualities and talking about shared memories. Everyone who met with her, left feeling better than when they came. As she took her last breath, she was surrounded by her loving husband of almost sixty-one years and her eight children, who she loved more than anything else in this world.

Carol was born in 1942, to LaVerne Aston and Harold Bowers in Salt Lake City. She later graduated from Bountiful High School after moving there with her family.

At the age of 19, she met the love of her life, Charles P. Zacher, and after 6 weeks and a good sandwich, she decided he was the one. They ran off together in Carol’s red VW Beetle to the Elko County Courthouse to get married. After 21 years of marriage and eight children, they were sealed together as a family in the Mesa Arizona Temple.

If raising eight children wasn’t enough, Carol held several jobs throughout her life. She retired from Kennecott/Rio Tinto where she managed payroll and benefits for the copper mine. She was an avid reader and especially loved mysteries. She even authored a short novel for her kids and grandchildren to enjoy. She loved finding new recipes to try by combing through and collecting cookbooks.

Carol loved the Lord and served him with all her heart in each of her callings. She enjoyed working in the temple with Chuck and attending individually. She had a love of music and was a fine musician and gladly shared her talents with others, including piano lessons, writing her own music, directing several church choir programs, and playing the organ in temple chapel each week. Her gospel library is extensive, and her scriptures are well worn from years of study.

She is survived by her husband Chuck, her sisters Susan and Lisa, and her brother Barry. She is also survived by her children, Clark (Jana), Jared (Natalie), Amy, Eden (Scott), Kerry (Tauny), Megan (Josh), Kate, Charlie (Jenny), 20 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Carol had a big heart and deeply cared for others, especially those who were in need. To be the good in the world like she was to her family and those who knew her, she would be thrilled knowing that you donated to your local food bank on her behalf.

Funeral services will be held on Friday May 19th at 12:00 pm at the Woods Cross Stake Center located at 2064 South 800 West in Woods Cross. Viewings will be held Thursday evening, May 18th in the same building from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and from 10:30 am to 11:30 am the morning of the funeral services.

Carol’s final resting place will be next to her parents at Memorial Mortuaries & Cemeteries - 1640 Lakeview Dr. Bountiful Utah.

A special thank you to the Doctors, Nurses and hospital staff at Lakeview Hospital and Huntsman Cancer Institute who tirelessly cared for Carol in the last few months and days of her life. Their efforts allowed Carol to have the best and most dignified end to her earthly life as possible, allowing her to create new and everlasting memories with those whom she loved the most.

Dearest Eden, Scott, and Gracie:

The first word that comes to mind when I think about your beloved mother, and grandmother is 'gracious and generous.' Every time I met your mother she was so inclusive with her loving-kind actions, generosity, and fun conversation. Also, she always seemed genuinely interested in what I had to share and say. I loved getting tours of her garden, and what she loved. I am so sorry that she suffered from cancer. Yet, it was only a brief respite before she was welcomed home in the loving arms of her family, Jesus, and angels in heaven.

Mostly, what I loved about your mother is how much she loved all of you. What a gift you were to each other, and your experiences both good, bad, mundane and all the in-betweens were jewels; created by your love of one another.

I am so happy you had each other and thank you for sharing your family with me. It is a joyful memory in my life.

xoxoxo, always and forever your friend,
