Carol Woodruff Hicks, our loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2023, in Eagle Mountain, Utah, at the age of 82. She was born in Murray, Utah on October 9, 1940 to Joseph Wilford and Leota Miller Woodruff. Her older sister, Maurine, preferred the name Gloria; but her mother liked the name Carol.

In her early years, Carol enjoyed school, making paper dolls, going to movies, and getting ice cream at the local ice cream parlor. When she was 3, Carol’s father passed away from a brain tumor. Her Grandpa Miller died four months later. From that time on, Carol learned the importance of hard work and service. She devoted much of her time to supporting her mother with cooking and cleaning chores around their family boarding house. During her teenage years, she enjoyed playing kickball and softball with her friends and received the nickname of ‘powerlegs’. She learned compassionate service and sensitivity to the Spirit at a young age through the example of her loving mother.

She graduated from East High School in 1958 and started work as a secretary at Geneva Steel. Shortly thereafter, she met Henry Lamar Hicks on a blind date arranged by her brother and sister-in-law, Keith & Lavon. She initially noticed Lamar’s blue eyes and red nose. Lamar and Carol dated for over a year, and she received her engagement ring on Valentine’s Day in 1959. They were later married in the Salt Lake Temple on January 22, 1960.

Carol was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served in many callings. Together with her husband, she was called to a service mission in downtown Salt Lake City from 1990-1991 and had many wonderful experiences. She also served as a temple worker at the Jordan River Temple for several years.
Carol was a devoted wife and supported her husband with love and patience. Together they shared 48 years of loving companionship and adventures. She enjoyed working as a real estate secretary and worked tirelessly with her husband on numerous real estate investments.

Carol and Lamar raised seven beautiful children. She was a loving mother and was always there to support her family. She was also a dedicated grandmother and is loved and revered by her posterity. They have 28 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Until her passing, Carol kept track of each grandchild’s and great-grandchild’s birthdays and activities.
Carol loved to make new friends and keep up with old ones. She was generous in giving her time and means to help others. She participated in many friend groups, visiting the temple on a regular basis and playing dominos. She enjoyed celebrating holidays, birthdays and special events with her loved ones. She loved to cook, bake, and play games with family and friends. She also enjoyed helping coordinate Wilford Woodruff family events and family reunions at Flaming Gorge. In their later years, Carol and Lamar spent time traveling and visiting their children in different parts of the US.
Carol is survived by her six children, Terri Summers (Jesse), Scott (Nancy), Patrick (Dori), Keith, Nathan, Cathy, and her sister Lorna Robinett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Lamar Hicks, her son, Dale (Jennifer), and her grandson, Tyler.

As she passed through the veil, surrounded by her children’s love, we took solace in the grand reunion she had with her many loved ones. She will be remembered dearly by all who know and love her.

Viewing: Tuesday, June 20th from 6-8 pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E 10600 S, Sandy, UT.

Funeral: Wednesday, June 21st at 11 am (viewing prior from 10-10:45 am) at Larkin Sunset Gardens.
Interment will be in Larkin Sunset Gardens following the Funeral services.

Guestbook/Condolences

Dear Hicks Children,
I am sorry that I wasn't able to make your Moms service. She was the rock. I am so grateful for
the parties we had at your home. She had strong beliefs and stood by them (in my world), She was a wonderful Aunt. I am sorry for your loss.
Love, Angie

Carol and I were "backyard" neighbors. She was dear to me even though we did not take advantage of daily contact. Rides to RS Socials were special. I admired her so much and loved her. Her kindness and goodness shone through. The day I returned from a stay in a rehab facility, I realized she was moving out and was so sad that we didn't even get a goodbye hug. I have thought of her often through the past year - She was/IS so special. The obituary tells it all. Love to her wonderful family. Respectfully CLEO

PS I was so enthralled by the pink hollyhocks. Another monument to my procrastination is that I didn't get any seeds!
