“Resilient”

Carol, age 79, passed away Friday, October 13, 2023 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born April 9, 1944 on Easter in Park City, Utah. Her parents were Arthur and Jane Grant Workman. She married Jerry Blaine Johnson on December 8, 1962 in Park City, Utah. She became a widow on April 30, 2012 and never remarried. Carol died peacefully in her sleep while trying to recover from health complications. She was a passionate Mom and Grammy. She was a dedicated matriarch and gave her children and grandkids everything.

She brought joy to everyone with her contagious laugh and her uplifting spirit. She loved being surrounded by family and friends through her gracious celebrations, world travels, and family reunions at J.J.’s Hideaway. She excelled in everything she set her mind to. Graduating top of her class at Park City High School, she was a lead cheerleader and acted in plays. Her competitive nature led to a long life of skilled bowling, winning golf tournaments, and becoming the queen at Bingo. She was a curator of art and jewelry. She was a great cook and prided herself in her ability to entertain and decorate for the holidays. She was the “organizer”, always going out of her way to make events extra special and certainly making everyone around her laugh. She enjoyed being involved in the community by volunteering at PTA and serving as president of bowling and golf leagues. She also volunteered at Murray Senior Center with Bingo and Wendover trips, participated in the Red Hat Society, and recently joined the board at her independent senior living apartments. She played a key role in business administration for her husband’s structural engineering firm J.J. Design and their Red Wing Shoes franchises. She was never a religious woman, but she had a certain spiritual aspect and found
guidance through the presence of angels in her life. After the passing of her late husband, she encountered a profound sadness and loneliness near the end of her life. She struggled with addictions that, in some moments act as a cautionary tale, but in other moments point to her resilience, stubbornness, and insistence on greatness that made her life so exceptional. Despite these hard times, she maintained in her heart a passionate adoration for all of her family and friends and thought about them constantly. She lives on in spirit, passing on her giving and performative ways. The heavens have gained a beautiful soul singing “Oh, Carol!”.

She is survived by daughter Michele Johnson Elder, son Robert Arthur Johnson, two phenomenal grandkids Nash Jeren and Nya Jonele Elder, sister Barbara Provost, brother Steve (Beverly) Workman, in-laws Karen (Mark) Anderson, and Colleen Johnson Beck. She is preceded in death by her husband, mother, father, one sister, one brother, and both her mother-in-law and father-in-law.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 11:00 am at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 East Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 S.) Sandy, Utah. Viewings will be held on Friday 6:00-8:00 pm at Larkin and also on Saturday from 10:00-10:45 am prior to the service. Celebration of life and interment will be held at Park City Cemetery.
