Carolyn Sorensen Baker, a vivacious spirit and a beloved wife and mother, left this world on November 19, 2024, at the age of 77, in West Jordan, Utah. Born on July 11, 1947, in Salt Lake City, to Darwin and Ruth Sorensen, Carolyn’s life was a testament to faith, love, and a never-ending sense of adventure.

Carolyn grew up in Sugarhouse, graduating from Highland High School and LDS Business College. During her youth she learned and taught guitar at the local music academy. Above all, Carolyn was a mischief-maker extraordinaire who always had a joke up her sleeve and a stash of chocolate (especially M&M’s) in her purse, car, and home. She loved card games, family gatherings, and surprising people with her playful antics. Carolyn was always the fun-loving, musically-gifted soul of any gathering.

On August 15, 1967, she embarked on her greatest adventure, marrying her sweetheart, John Baker, in the Salt Lake Temple. Married for 56 years, with 4 handsome sons, 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandson, their love was an enduring testimony of her deep faith and commitment to her family.

Throughout her life, Carolyn thrived on serving others. Her commitment to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints took her through numerous church callings and three service missions. Known for her love of genealogy, she enthusiastically connected others with their ancestral roots.

Professionally, Carolyn spent over 36 years as a Network Engineer at the Granite School District. Her dedication to her work was matched only by her enthusiasm to explore the world. Her bucket list was filled with destinations far and wide. While she was able to cross many off her list, she only wished she could have travelled to more places.

Missing her greatly are her husband, John, her sons: John (Tiffany), Gary (Amy), Steven (Michelle), and Scott (Sharley), her grandchildren: Caitlyn, Haidyn, Dilyn, Bryson, Ansley, Braden, Brevin, Andrew, Amy, Dakota and Graysen, and her great grandson Braidyn. She also leaves behind her siblings, Roy Sorensen, Pam Guymon, Linda (Jim) Marshall, and Darwin (LeeAnn) Sorensen. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Darwin Nels Sorensen and Ruth Ann Sorensen and her sister-in-law, Linda Sorensen. She leaves a legacy of love and laughter that will live on through her family.

We invite you to celebrate Carolyn’s life with us. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 25, 2024, at the Jordan Oaks 5th Ward Chapel, 9353 South Vista West Drive (3780 West) in West Jordan. A visitation will be held Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Jordan Oaks Chapel and Monday morning from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Burial services will follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) Sandy, Utah.
