Listen to Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we share that our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Catherine (Cat) Lela Anderson Mullins, 74, of Sandy, Utah, unexpectedly passed away on February 9th, 2026, and has returned home to be with her father in heaven.

She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on November 12, 1951, to Reed Spencer Anderson and Hertha Mary Bixby. She grew up in the Salt Lake Valley where she attended Highland High School and participated in the Modern Dance Club, as dancing was one of her many loves.

On April 28th, 1971, Cathy married the love of her life, James Darrell Mullins. They later were sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. They enjoyed 54 adventurous years together. Their greatest joy was raising their 5 children. As a military family, they picked up and moved around the country many times. Experiencing life from sea to sea, in California, Louisiana, North Carolina, and eventually returning to their home of Utah, Cathy always made sure to make the best out of any situation and knew how to always make it fun for everyone around her. Her positivity was most contagious.

Cat loved helping others and would always talk fondly of the time she worked at the Burn Center of Louisiana. She had many jobs, but her favorite "job" was that of being a mom. Cathy also served in many callings for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she was a devoted member. Her favorite callings in the Church were that of Young Women's President, where she especially loved going to Girls Camp, and as a missionary helping others in the Addiction Recovery Program. She loved and cared about every person she served, in all of her callings.

Cathy thoroughly enjoyed spending time outdoors. From camping to fishing to white water rafting, she felt at home in the mountains. Whenever she got the chance, she would go on drives to her beloved mountains for some fresh air. She really treasured spending time with her family going day camping. She always made sure to bring games for everyone to play but was particularly fond of playing Apples to Apples. When she wasn't in the mountains, Cat relished spending time in her garden with her beautiful plants and flowers.

Cathy also enjoyed going to movies and taking vacations whenever she got the chance. Her grandkids have many fond memories of movie time with grandma, being silly with her at Disneyland, riding the train at the zoo, getting plenty of ice cream, and always having her support at dance recitals and sporting events. Cat also loved celebrating the holidays, especially Halloween. She adored passing out treats to everyone and watching the kids grow up year after year. Kids from near and far will always remember their fantastic Halloween house.

Cathy will always be remembered as being fun, silly, spunky, adventurous, warm, caring, someone to laugh with, and always smiling. She went on many trips and had many experiences, from seeing Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, to visiting Banff, Canada, a cherished favorite of hers, and enjoying countless other trips. Her greatest adventure is now just beginning.

Cathy is survived by her loving husband, Jim; her children, Crystal (Todd Berge), Mark, Carrie (Jesse Kennicott), Daniel (TMac), and Caitlyn (Scott Draper); grandchildren, David, Nathan, Lina, Chloe, Wolfgang, and Judge; her brothers, John Anderson (Melodie), Vance Anderson, and Spencer Anderson, and dear friend, Carla (Craig Jorgensen). She is preceded in death by her parents Reed and Hertha Anderson.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 14th, 2026, at 11:00 am at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E 10600 S, Sandy, UT.

There will be a viewing from 10:00 - 10:45 am, prior to the services.

Interment to follow.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the family to help with medical and funeral expenses. More info to follow. Thank you!
