Charles "Ted" Edward Richardson III

1965 ~ 2023

My sweet Ted returned home to be with family and his Heavenly Father after a courageous battle with his health on November 17, 2023. Ted was born into the loving family of Shannon and Charles “Chuck” Edward Richardson Jr. in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia Canada on December 27, 1965. He grew up with his brother, Christopher, spending time swimming in Lake Major, building homes with his dad and taking long trips with his mother to gather lilacs in the springtime.

He attended and graduated from Cole Harbour District High School in 1984 and continued his education at Dalhousie University where he received a Bachelor's Degree of Science in 1992.

Ted was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Riverside California Mission. At a young age, Ted knew he was a child of God. He met with the missionaries and was converted at the age of twenty-four. He was a member of the Hillcrest 2nd Ward in Sandy, Utah. He had a close relationship with his Heavenly Father and loved his Savior, Jesus Christ.

Ted is the loving father of Michael and Matthew Richardson and his daughter Jessica Richardson. They enjoyed spending time together, swimming at the beach, having picnics, and going on road trips. He spent many summers in Newfoundland visiting his family. During the years, Ted enjoyed long distance phone and video calls with his mother, children and grandchildren.

In 2007, Ted moved to the United States in search of new opportunities. During his time in Utah, he was employed as an IT Tech Recruiter where he helped people find equitable employment. This is where he met his best friend, Lorne Redmond and they became lifelong friends. They spent many hours playing cribbage, Catan, going to the movies and watching the Patriots win football games.

Ted and Kristy met and fell in love and he proposed to his sweetheart in February 2014. They were married on June 19, 2014, then spent their honeymoon in Canada. They enjoyed the Halifax Public Gardens, sightseeing on an iceberg ship tour and visiting with family. After returning, they made their home in Sandy, Utah.

Ted was a generous, supportive, thoughtful stepdad to Brandon, Austin, Katlyn and Colton. He spent many hours driving, cooking, lending tools, and encouraging them to be their best selves. Ted enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a beloved member of the Curtis and Barnhisel family.

It wasn’t uncommon for Ted to be wearing many of his different colored hoodies, drinking iced Diet Mt. Dew, tinkering in the garage, eating at The Philadelphian and drive-thru at McDonalds. He loved hamburgers! His favorite Canadian snacks were Ketchup potato chips, EAT-More bars, Aussie black licorice, and he was always found duct taping anything broken. He spent many hours road tripping around Utah finding the best hamburgers in each city. You could find Ted gardening, cooking stir fry, and sitting in “The Happy Place” and their “Cozy Corner.” He enjoyed astronomy, genealogy, discussing history and politics. You could hear Ted singing and sharing his favorite 80’s music and sea shanties.

Ted was preceded in death by his father, Charles Edward Richardson Jr. and stepfather Edward Wieterman. He is survived by his wife, Kristy Richardson, his stepchildren, Brandon (Savannah), Austin (Emily), Katlyn (Tony) and Colton. His grandmother Ivy Mellaney, Uncle Bobby (Shelly) Woodgate and family, mother Shannon Wieterman, brother Christopher (Kristen) Richardson, and their daughter Samantha, stepmother Sheila (Roy) Sheppard, Catherine Richardson (Andrew Breen) and Aunt Bev Mallory. Ted’s son, Michael (Amanda) and their family, Heather and Warren, Amelia Lambert, and Levi Richardson. Ted’s son, Matthew Richardson. Ted’s daughter Jessica Richardson and her two sons, Kayden and Kohen Meunier.

Kristy would like to express her gratitude for the friendly, thoughtful, and kind service of the doctors and staff at the Wasatch Dialysis Center, and Home Health Services. She would like to personally thank Doctor Anna Hronek and Doctor John Moore NP for their dedication and care they gave Ted. Kristy would like to express her deep gratitude to Sutter Physicians (SCAH) for allowing time away from her work while she took care of Ted.

“You are the love and light of my life,
You’ll never find another love like mine,
Someone who cares for you the way I do.”
I love you Ted

Shannon, Chris, Ivy and family

We are so saddened to learn of Ted’s recent passing in the prime of his life but are happy to know that he is now with his heavenly father.

Although we haven’t been in touch since Ted he left Lake Major after graduating from Cole Harbour High ( I believe valedictorian), we have fond memories of Ted growing up in our small community when our children spent many times together.

We pray that God will give you comfort as you grieve Ted’s passing.

Our sincere condolences to all

So sorry to hear of Ted’s passing. My sincere condolences Kristy to you and your family and the extended families of both you and Ted. I consider Ted a good friend although we have not been in close contact for many years since his move west. We were planning to meet when we came to Utah a couple years ago but Covid scuttled the trip. I remember and have always admired his many talents and aptitudes, including a quick wit, easy sense of humour, and an intelligent and curious mind. I always enjoyed our conversations on a wide range of topics and his keen insights always helped broaden my perspective. Heaven has gained a great soul.

Hi Kristy - I was so saddened to hear of the passing of your dearest husband Ted. My thoughts and prayers are offered on your behalf and to your family. What a wonderfully written obituary honoring Ted’s life. May our Heavenly Father continue to watch over you during this difficult time and remember the most important reason for our purpose in this life is to gain a body, grow, be tested, gain knowledge, experience life challenges, and to weep tears from the loss of loved ones. Know that I love you and am I’m thinking of you. Love Aunt Kathy

Kristy and Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to each of you at this time. It has been such a joy to get to know Ted and have him as a part of our family. I have cherished our time playing board games and cards at our family gatherings. We both liked to win and Ted made the challenge fun. I will miss you always, Tammy

Ted was such a wonderful person. We joined the church together and attended the Dartmouth Ward in Dartmouth Nova Scotia, Canada. We had great times being part of the YSA group and being the " new comers" to the group. His smile always lit up the room along with his laugh.
I am thankful I had a chance to visit him and meet his wonderful wife Kristy when my daughters were attending BYU.
Thank you Ted for being a part of my life and for being a wonderful friend.
God Speed to you and your family.

Dear Kristy and family: I am so sad for you all regarding Ted’s passing. I remember him most as a little and teenage boy, then he moved away and we lost touch except for facebook. But, he was my brother’s son and my nephew and I loved him as I do all of my nephews and niece. You don’t have to live close or be with family to love them. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time and always. Love, Aunt Bev

- Beverley (Richardson) Mallory

I’m so sorry for the loss of this kind hearted man. Kristi - I never met you but I could tell that Ted found happiness with you - for this I am grateful!!

We met Ted shortly after he joined the Church when he and our oldest son, born the same year, became friends. Philip had already served a mission in California San Jose, and was also attending Dalhousie University. Ted was in our home many times. He always had a positive outlook, was very outgoing, and a great conversationalist. We were very sad to read his obituary which Philip sent to us via email this morning. We are so sorry for your loss. It sounds like the two of you were meant for each other. We express our condolences to you and all of his family, near and far.

- John & Janet MacLennan, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia
