Obituary

Charles Vincent Hearst passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 13, 2026, surrounded by his family here and beyond, from the progression of Alzheimer’s. Charles was born December 13, 1939, and raised in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, by his father and mother James and Hattie Pickens Hearst.

Charles worked small jobs to supplement the family income after his father passed away in 1951 when Charles was age 12. After graduation, Charles enlisted in the Air Force where he was trained as a radiology technologist. He was assigned to Karamursel Air Station in Turkey until he was discharged in 1964. Charles worked at the VA Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, until retirement in 1965. He met Kelly Dilday, who was training as an x-ray tech and they were married in 1980. Together they had three children – Lexie (deceased), Brady, and Bethany.

Charles was the condo’s watch dog from our porch, greeting residents when they walk to get their mail or to the pool. Many remembered him sitting on the porch amid our beautiful flowers, with either a Diet Coke and/or a bowl of chocolate chip ice cream.

Our family shared a passion for NASCAR racing, traveling to race tracks around the US. Our home brimmed with memorabilia, including a life-size cut out of Richard Petty.

Anywhere Charles went, he was known for his gentle demeanor. He was sweet tempered, humble, and easy-going.

Charles will be missed greatly by those who had the good fortune to know him. As we, his family, believe, he is in a place where he is whole again and surrounded by family who have passed on.

Charles, Our Love Forever-

Your family, Brady, Bethany, and your wife, Kelly.

Rest In Heaven

There will be a memorial service Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 10:00 at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) in Sandy. We request casual brightly colored clothes--no black--unless you come from the care center. This is a joyful occasion!

You'll be greatly missed Charles but I know you'll be in a better place
