Our much-loved husband, father, and grandfather, Charles William “Bill” Watts IV, passed away November 27, 2023. He was born July 28, 1945, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Fredrick Orville and Vie Carter Watts. He loved his two older brothers and was especially heartbroken at the death of his oldest brother, Carter, in 1981.

Bill graduated from East High School in 1964. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served there in many capacities, including serving a full-time mission in the Gulf States Mission from 1964–1966. On May 19, 1967, Bill was sealed to his high-school sweetheart, Stephanie Ann Cluff, in the Salt Lake Temple. He proudly and honorably served his country in the Navy, going on active duty in 1968, assigned to the USS Floyd County, LST 762, achieving the rank of Petty Officer Third Class.

Bill grew up spending his summers with his grandparents, brothers, and cousins in Kanosh, Utah, and he enjoyed telling stories of his adventures there. Kanosh is a town that has always had a special place in his heart, and he would return there every Memorial Day to decorate graves and visit with his family and acquaintances. Bill loved music, dancing, keeping his house and yard immaculate, and his family most of all. He was proud of his children and grandchildren and their accomplishments, and was willing to do anything to help them. Bill loved to share a good laugh with friends and family, and his laugh was infectious. Even his customers at his printing business, Star Printing, would take a minute to share a laugh with him. He always tried to have a positive outlook, and everyone around him benefitted from it.

Bill also had a deep love of his ancestors and continued the legacy of family research and genealogy that his mother started. He enjoyed finding interesting stories and family connections and became known as the keeper of family records, stories, and pictures.

Bill is survived by his wife, Stephanie; five children: Christine (Derk) Koldewyn; Charles William “Billy” (Adair) Watts V; Michael (Emily) Watts; Jennifer Watts; and Lindsey (Jason) Dao; nine grandchildren; and his brother Ronald (Wilma) Watts.

Friends and family are invited to a viewing from 6–8 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City, on Friday, December 1, 2023. Graveside service will be held at the Kanosh, Utah, cemetery, on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 1 p.m.

I was so sad to hear about the passing of my Uncle Bill. He and my dad were very close and he was always around for as long as I could remember before my dad died. I always enjoyed playing with his and Stephanie's kids when we were little. His stories were always fun to listen to when I would see him at his print shop and later when we were all working together at the shop on State Street. Especially his Navy stories. Prayers and best wishes for the family.

Love - Jake Watts
