Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Cheryl Ann Hartman Brown, 69, announce her unexpected passing on June 1, 2026, due to complications from a pre-existing heart condition.
Cheryl was born on August 24, 1956, in Whittier, California, to Richard and Sharon Hartman. She grew up in Hacienda Heights, California, where she ran track, and played tennis and badminton. She performed in the Rose Bowl parade and the California state fair with the Los Altos High School drill team. She was a talented artist who won awards for her creations. From 1979 to 1980, she faithfully served a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in El Salvador and Honduras, a foundational experience that shaped her lifelong commitment to serving others.
Upon returning from her mission, she pursued her love for the arts, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts from Brigham Young University. She later advanced her education by earning a Master of Arts in Art Education from California State University, Sacramento.
On August 20, 1983, Cheryl was united in marriage to Chad Walter Brown in the Los Angeles Temple, where they were sealed for time and all eternity. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, companionship, and shared devotion.
Cheryl was a vibrant soul known for her profound love of animals, particularly horses, her exceptional artistic talent, and her dedication to teaching. Whether she was creating art, guiding students, or quietly looking out for those in need, her life was a testament to Christlike service. Her warmth, creativity, and gentle spirit left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her.
She will be lovingly remembered by her beloved husband of 42 years, Chad Walter Brown; her favorite children, Ryan, Brittany, Rochelle (Jonathan), and Natalie (Garrett); her darling grandchildren Mason, Finn, and Lydia; her brother Bret; and a community of extended family, friends, and students who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Richard and Sharon Hartman.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse at 800 Sylvan Avenue in Modesto, California with a viewing from 1:30 to 2:30 pm, followed by a funeral service from 3:00 to 4:00 pm. A burial will take place at a later date in Eden, Utah.
