With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Cheryl J. Larson, affectionately known as “Cher,” on January 6, 2025, due to complications from Parkinson’s Disease. Cheryl was 77 years old.
Cheryl was born on September 17, 1947, in Pocatello, Idaho. She spent the majority of her childhood in Idaho Falls, where she attended elementary, middle, and high school, graduating from Idaho Falls High School in 1965. After high school, Cheryl moved to Ogden, Utah, where she worked at a car dealership, managing accounting and bookkeeping. She later relocated to Salt Lake City to work for the Utah Bar Association. It was there that she met Allan Larson, whom she married (and later divorced).
Above all, Cheryl’s greatest joy in life was becoming a mother. She absolutely adored her daughter, often telling her she was an angel and her greatest gift. Cher had a deep love for animals, especially the canine variety. Her home was often filled with the joyful chaos of visiting four-legged friends, which gave her much joy. She had a special fondness for Yorkies and cared for several of them throughout her life.
Cher will be remembered for her dry, witty, and sarcastic sense of humor that always brought laughter to those around her. She was a great listener, a thoughtful advice giver, and a spiritual soul. Always elegant and fashionable, she took great pride in her appearance, enjoying regular trips to have her hair and nails done.
Cheryl is survived by her daughter Nicole McCrea (James), her cherished granddaughter Kathryn McCrea, her beloved mother Joyce Voshell (Jack), and her brothers Stephen Voshell (Sandy) and Stanley Voshell (Mary Ellen). She also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, her father Jack Voshell, her sister-in-law Mary Ellen Voshell, and two infant nephews, David and Adam Voshell.
Cher deeply valued the friendships she made over the years and cared deeply for those close to her. She would want her friends and family to know how much they meant to her. Without a doubt, she is now reunited with her loved ones, and her beloved puppies who greeted her as she crossed over the rainbow bridge.
At Cheryl’s request, no services will be held. Her interment will take place at Taylor Cemetery in Idaho Falls, Idaho, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation in her honor to the Humane Society of Utah or Best Friends Animal Society of Utah. Alternatively, you could simply enjoy a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a Diet Coke in her memory—two of her favorite things.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of The Abbington Murray, Ability Home Health and Hospice, and the Presbyterian Church of Salt Lake City for their compassionate care and support.
