Christine Davey Nielsen passed away at the age of 66 on the 12th of January 2026 in Iowa City, Iowa. She was born on the 22nd day of June 1959 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah to Ronald Heard Davey and Janet Christopherson. She will be missed so much by family and friends.
Chris grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from Highland High School in 1977. She graduated from the University of Utah in June of 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Family and Consumer Studies. She worked for the University Book Store for several years. She then went to work for Novel and then Intel. She finally ended up working for BYU where she was the secretary for the Deans of Continuing Education until she retired. Even while working at BYU she was always Red through and through.
Chris married Steven D Nielsen on the 7th of September 2002 in the Salt Lake Temple in Salt Lake City. She instantly became a mother of 5 children and a grandmother of 9. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and passed away with 21 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She loved them very much and enjoyed spending time with them, attending all the special events that come with being a grandparent.
Chris served at the Timpanogos Temple for 2 ½ years as a service missionary. The Temple Facilities manager needed assistance in keeping track of the many temple projects. She put together several spread sheets that helped facilities keep track of their jobs.
She and her husband were called to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to the Illinois Historic Sites Mission serving in Physical Facilities. They reported to the MTC in Provo on June 30th 2025 and arrived in Nauvoo on July 7th. Sister Nielsen was asked to assist the painting crew, which she accepted and was able to contribute much to the beauty of the site there in Nauvoo and to the visitor’s center in Carthage. She loved her mission and served in many ways, and in lots of different areas. She was loved by all that she worked with and associated with because of her kindness and wit.
Chris loved to travel. She went on several cruises and church tours. She’s been to Scotland, Ireland and England. Rome and many of the Mediterranean islands. Alaska, Mexico and the Caribbean along with a couple of church tours within the United States.
She loved to watch football and was a true 49er fan. She loved to watch Utah and BYU football games with her family, so Saturdays were fun. She always cheered for both teams unless they were playing with each other and then it was always Utah. She and her sister Carolyn would stick together on that.
Chris was very organized and talented. She loved to sew, work on crafts of many types, take pictures, ski, work on family history and serve others. She ministered to all.
She served many years in the Young Women’s program in the church, served in the Primary Presidency and served as a counselor in the Relief Society and the Relief Society President in her ward.
She is survived by her husband Steve, her sister Carolyn Davey, her children Kristine Coyle (Michael), Kim West (Kasey), Michael Nielsen (Mistie), Matthew Nielsen (Megan), Kira Stott (Devin). 21 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ronald Heard Davey and her mother Janet Christopherson.
Services will be held on the 24th of January 2026 in the Cedar Hollow 1st ward building in Lehi, Utah (9681 North 6900 West Highland, Utah 84003) at 1 pm. There will be a viewing in the same building from 12 noon to 12:45 pm. There will also be a viewing on the 23rd at the Larkin Mortuary Downtown, 260 E South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah from 6 pm to 8 pm. Interment will take place at the Salt Lake City Cemetery directly after the funeral service.
Certainly will miss Chris! My heart is with you Steve & Carolyn! Love you both!

Chris was a huge part of the Wilde Family. As a deciple of Christ, and a daughter of a living Father in Heaven May you be at peace in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father and your parents. May those here in mortality be comforted by the love of God & our Savior Jesus Christ.
I’m still processing the fact that Christine is not here to paint with us in Nauvoo. She really was the one to look to for directions and as Elder Duncan put it, she was the rudder to our ship. I had the thought yesterday that she could be visiting with Joseph and Emma Smith and other people who lived here in Nauvoo and all the prophets who are on the other side of the veil! Then I was a bit jealous! But I’ll wait until it’s my turn and I look forward to greeting Chris again and really get to know her better. I pray that you can see some of the miracles that have been revealed in all of this.
We can all be grateful for the knowledge we have of the eternities.

I’m so sorry, Steve. What an unexpected tragedy. Just a week ago I told my kids about her. Chris was very special friend, although we didn’t see much of each other lately. Somehow, even in high school, I felt like she was my best friend. Just last week I told my kids about her and your mission.
I’ll be praying for you, Steve. Chris loved you so very much; you were her knight in shining armor. And I was so happy when you two found each other. Thank you for making her so happy.
Our deepest condolences to Steve and the family. We are still processing how quickly the Lord called Chris to another mission on the other side. We will miss chatting with her "over the fence" when we are visiting the Hundleys next door. We are forever grateful to both of you for being the kindest, best neighbors we could ask for to live next door to our children and grandchildren.

What a shock! I faithfully received Christmas cards from Chris every year and was excited for her to be on a mission this time. Chris was a favorite (along with Carolyn!) baby sitter and neighbor until we moved. You were too young, Chris!

SOOO sorry to learn of the early passing of wonderful Chris! I worked with her many years at BYU in Continuing Education and, of course, she was a favorite. I'm sure you will sorely miss her, but so grateful for the gospel and our knowledge that we can see her again.

Dear Carolyn,
The other day I was looking at my Father's Obituary (which as just below Chris's) and saw Chris's picture and was so shocked. We had just received their Christmas card in Dec. which she said they were on a mission. I am so sorry for your loss. You both were so close. So, hard for you to lose your sister. I am thinking and praying for peace and comfort for you. I will try and watch her services on zoom. I wish that I could call you but don't have your number. It's been many years but I have such fond memories of those years that I associated with you both.

We have loved Carolyn and Christine for many years...having grown up in the same neighborhood.
I was a baby sitter for them, and then years later, they were sitters for our children! We loved the Davey Family!!
We also served in the Nauvoo mission the year before Chris and Steve.
We are so sad to hear of Chris' passing! She was truly a wonderful woman and follower of Christ!
We pray for peace and comfort for Carolyn and Steve and all their family!

Chris was my Young Women’s leader about 35 years ago. She was such an amazing example for good and I was blessed to have her guiding influence in my teenage years. I loved that we still got together from time to time over the years. It was clear how much she loved Steve and all of her children and grandchildren. Sending prayers of comfort. What an absolute shock to see Chris on HHS Rememberance page. I was just looking at pictures from Scotland she had sent me and submissions she had made to our genealogy. My heart aches at the magnitude of this loss. The family will be in my thoughts for months to come.
