Christine Huber Stoker

1958 ~ 2023

Christine Huber Stoker, a pillar of strength and love, unexpectedly passed away at her home on Friday, November 10, 2023. Her departure follows a recent diagnosis of Stage IV Metastatic Invasive Ductal Breast Cancer, in which she courageously began a rigorous treatment plan just two weeks prior to her passing.

Born on June 30, 1958, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Chris was the beloved daughter of Edward John and Geraldine Eccles Huber. On February 12, 1981, she embarked on a lifelong journey of love and companionship with Gerald (Jerry) Stoker. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and enduring family bonds. Chris and Jerry were the proud parents of two talented and resourceful sons, Alex and Peter, and delighted in their role as grandparents.

Chris grew up with a deep sense of community. She was raised in Magna, Utah, in the Lake Ridge neighborhood, where her youth was filled with good friends, neighbors, fun activities, and long-lasting connections. Chris graduated from Cyprus High School - Class of 1976 - and began working for Granite School District at the Mill Hollow Science Camp soon after graduation. Granite School District became her work home for some 34 years, from Mill Hollow to the Library Media Instruction Department and then to the newly opened Jefferson Junior High, where she worked most of her career as the finance secretary. Chris enjoyed working with students and spending her days in a school.

In her tenure with the Granite School District, Chris embarked on a fulfilling career and found a lifelong companion, Jerry Stoker, with whom she shared 42 years of devoted marriage. Jerry's love for Chris was profound, rooted in simple acts of service and an unwavering commitment to one another. Together, Chris and Jerry laid the foundation for a warm and welcoming home in Kearns, Utah, where they cultivated a nurturing environment to raise their family. Their home became a beacon of community, with the Stoker family standing out as exemplary neighbors and cherished friends to many. The Stokers' love story, etched in the walls of their home and echoed in the memories of those around them, is a testament to the enduring power of love, dedication, and the bonds that last a lifetime.

The Stokers have always stayed close to home yet enjoyed annual trips to Yellowstone and Disneyland vacations with Grandma and Grandpa Huber. Chris found particular joy in spending quality time with her family.

The Stoker residence was not just a house but a haven of warmth and hospitality. Many summer nights were spent in lawn chairs in their garage, where Chris and Jerry became beloved fixtures of their community. They extended a welcoming hand to neighbors, creating a space where everyone felt embraced. Chris and Jerry's generosity knew no bounds, and their willingness to help others became a hallmark of their character.

Chris and Jerry’s generosity was reciprocated in abundance, especially in the past few weeks, as Chris experienced an outpouring of visits, love, and support. Chris had a remarkable ability to stay connected with her family, consistently staying attuned to the pulse of activities, birthdays, and anniversaries. Her loving, confetti-filled cards, encouraging notes, and thoughtful texts will remain enduring symbols of her affectionate nature. Chris's unmatched enthusiasm and spunk left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.

Among Chris's many passions, gardening and yard work held a special place. Her green thumb was not just a talent but an art form. The meticulously manicured yard and vibrant flower beds along Wakefield Way were a testament to Chris's dedication and love for cultivating beauty. Her garden became a source of inspiration for all who passed by, reflecting the care and passion she poured into every aspect of her life.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Chris served in many callings, but Primary Chorister was her favorite. Chris's commitment to fostering a love for music and spirituality in the hearts of the youth left a lasting mark on the community. Her legacy as the Primary Chorister will be remembered not only for the beautiful melodies she shared but also for the influence she had on the lives of countless children, leaving a lasting impression of love, joy, and spiritual guidance.

In commemorating the life of Christine Huber Stoker, we reflect on the richness she brought to our lives, the enduring impact of her love, and the countless ways she made the world a more beautiful place. May her memory continue to inspire and bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.

Chris is survived by her husband, Jerry; sons Alex (Hope) Stoker, Peter (Kyle) Best; grandson, Max Stoker; granddaughters Takarah and Meekah Parker; siblings, Jackie (John) Sudbury, Judy (Karl) Petersen, Cindy (Evan) Wood, Dee (Liz) Huber, John (Lori) Huber, Ed (Jennifer) Huber, and brother-in-law, Steve Stapley. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Geneil Stapley. Twenty-plus nieces and nephews, their spouses and children will forever fondly remember Aunt Chris, her love for them, and the surprise-packed birthday cards she faithfully sent.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 16, at 11:00 AM at the Walnut Hills wardhouse, 5938 West 6200 South in Kearns. A viewing will take place prior from 9:00-10:30 AM at the same location. Chris will be interred at Valley View Memorial Park on Friday, November 17 at 11:00 AM. Guestbook/Condolences

Steve and I are sad to hear the news of Chris’ passing. Although it has been many years since seeing her, we both have fond memories. My memories of Chris are of our growing up years and the Huber family. Steve’s memories are of meeting her in High School. Later on we would cross paths when she moved into the Walnut Hills neighborhood shortly before we moved out. We send our love to her family and all of the Huber family. We are grateful for the knowledge of the Gospel of Jesus Christ that assures Chris is now in the presence of the Savior, those family members who have proceeded her and that she is continuing to progress without the limitations of the earth. ❤️

My sincere condolences to the family of one of my most memorable childhood friends. I grew up down the street from Chris and spent many days, along with our siblings and numerous neighbors, playing hide and seek, riding bikes, going to the Gem theatre on Saturday afternoons, spending as much time outdoors as possible, and basically having a wonderful carefree environment to grow up. I was saddened and shocked by her passing and although I have not seen Chris for many years, I still considered her a friend. I always appreciated her forthright and honest outlook on life, and her dry sense of humor. Chris left us way too early, but I hope memories will provide comfort and bring smiles to faces. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Dear Peter and Family,

I extend the most heartfelt sympathy for your loss... your mother sounds like an outstanding human being and I see that reflected in Peter and his work. Cancer has certainly impacted my own family in the past few years so I truly empathize with how devastating it can be. I hope you can find peace and comfort in your mother's honorable legacy.

Warmest regards,
Judy Thorne
