Constance Hope Eckersley

1926 ~ 2022

Constance Hope Marker Eckersley passed away Saturday, July 9th surrounded by loved ones.

She was born April 23, 1926 to Irene Constance Hope and Gerald Ray Marker. She was an accomplished violinist, acting as concert mistress while attending South High School, and playing a violin solo in the tabernacle. While on the BYU ski team, she raced slalom and downhill and always won first place. She was an incredible seamstress, enjoyed crafts, and generally excelled at everything she did. She was beautiful and radiant, but will be most remembered by her life of loving service. She was always ready to sacrifice and contribute her talents, whether cooking, sewing, tending, or cleaning, and she had a way with words and no one could say it just like her.

Her grandchildren adored her and she raised them with grace and a sense of humor. Life was always fun at Grandma and Grandpa’s house. She was her family’s biggest cheerleader and support, through every joy and sorrow. She was a grandmother, mother, and trusted friend to everyone.

She married Howard Lorenzo Eckersley on July 1, 1949 in a double wedding at the Salt Lake Temple with her sister Shirley and Howard’s best friend, Wally Nielsen. Her beloved husband Howard passed away on November 10, 2003.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints her whole life and served in many capacities. As a young woman and before it was a common practice, she served a mission to the Southern States. She was also devoted to temple work, serving in the Jordan River Temple Baptistry for many years.

She is survived by her sisters, Marlene Bailey and Joan Floto, and her seven children: Stan (Barbara) Eckersley, Raani (Mark) Erekson, Kathy Wallin, Marilyn Eckersley, Judy Martin, Jean Eckersley, and John (Lisa) Eckersley. She is also survived by 35 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great- grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Howard, sister Shirley, and two grandchildren, Matthew Charles Erekson and Ellen Amelia Boud.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 15th at the Willow Creek 3rd Ward, 2400 E. Alta Canyon Drive (8600 S.), with a visitation one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment Lehi City Cemetery. For those unable to attend, services will be streamed via Zoom, please click on the "Watch Services" link above.

I loved Connie. She was always so kind. I will remember how she always looked nice, had a great laugh and was full of energy. She was so appreciative of the Carmel Popcorn I dropped off at Christmas. Small thing but she made you feel like it was a big deal. She genuinely cared about others. She will be missed.

A beautiful woman inside and out. It was a true blessing and pleasure to know her. Romance books, ham salad, and so many other lovely memories. Sending comforting thoughts to the family.

Our Family moved into the Midvalley Stake in the late 1980's. Howard and Connie played a Big Part in our lives as we assimilated into the area and the Ward. Connie and I worked together in the Relief Society closely and became quite close.

As with life, our family grew, we built in Draper a bigger home, moved and lost touch. However, I will never forget the BEAUTIFUL lasting love this remarkable woman had for me personally. Also, the many talents that she shared with her creative mind and her thoughtful heart. Knowing she sings and is home with the Angels makes me smile as she was truly an Angel here on earth.
