Our beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Gust Marion Janis, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2014. Gust was born in Price, Utah. He was raised with his brother George Janis by his mother Betty Janis, father Marion Janis, and his grandfather Janis. He and his family moved to Kearns, Utah and later West Jordan, Utah. He met his beloved wife Darhl (Jensen) Janis as a teenager at the local swimming pool. They married in Salt Lake City, Utah at Holly Trinity Greek Church. They lost their first child Shelly Ann Janis after one month of life. Later they had two more children, Jason Gust Janis and Trista Vee (Janis) Carras. Tragically, Darhl (Jensen) Janis passed away leaving behind Gust Janis and two young children.

Gust proceeded to create a life after losing his beloved wife. He took residence in Southern California. There he pursued many professions on his quest to find himself again and reinvent his life. Jeweler, oil rigger, and trucking and equipment businessman were a few of his many pursuits. He loved Southern California and called it home for most of his life.

Gust was a brilliant, passionate man. Those who knew him would always mention his extreme intelligence. He had the ability to make everyone around him feel his presence when he walked into a room. He was a great story teller and loved to tell people about the experiences he had throughout his life. He was an avid reader and enjoyed to read books of all kinds. He also loved to study the law in his spare time.

Gust was all about family. His family was everything to him. Wherever he was he would remain in close contact with his family. Always deeply concerned and connected. His daughter Trista (Janis) Carras and son-in-law Trever Carras have four children Alex, Ashley, Nicholas, and Nathaniel. His son Jason Janis has three children Jessica, Joshua, and Jace. His brother George Janis has always been his closest friend and supporter throughout his life. Gust will be missed for all the love he gave and for the unique man he was.

He is survived by his children Trista (Trever) Carras and Jason Janis, grandchildren; Alex, Ashley, Nicholas, Nathaniel, Jessica, Joshua and Jace; and his brother George Janis. Preceded in death by his parents, wife Darhl Jensen Janis and his daughter Shelly Ann Janis.
