Tad Hatanaka

1919 ~ 2014

Tad Hatanaka of Salt Lake City, Utah, decided it was now time to join his wife, our mother on Saturday, October 11, 2014.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:30 am, on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary. Our Dad had a great run of 95 years! His motto: Work hard so that you can play hard!

Tad was born July 26, 1919 in Los Angeles, California to Shima and Mangora Hatanaka. He was predeceased by his wife, May, and his two brothers, Hiromi and Umenori. He is survived by his daughter, Karin (Pat) Higashi, sons Bob Hatanaka and David (Dixie) Hatanaka. He has 9 grandchildren (Angela, Bubba, Travis, Shantel (Jami), Nick, Jordan, Chris, Alex, Cammeron), 4 great grandchildren (Dakota, Kylee, Jaxson, Katelyn), a very special Michelle, Jenny and many nieces and nephews.

Dad worked at Titan Steel and before that Lange Company. He has patents under his name which have made our family so very proud. Our dad could fix anything and everything.

Our Dad loved to ski. He skied until his early 80‘s. He loved bowling, playing pool, fished, hunted and remained very active into his 90's. We admired him and his bushido spirit! Dad's favorite was to go out and eat nihon shoku. He could out eat all of us! Even on Labor Day weekend 2014, Dad was eating up a storm! The Itamisan couldn't keep up with Dad and his consumption of sushi. Dad made all of us smile BIG smiles when he was eating.

Dad will be so missed because he is so loved by his family! We will always remember his smile and how much he loved us. We'll always hold him dear in our hearts.. forever. Rest in Peace Dad. No goodbyes, we'll see you again! Love always!

So please come and join the family in the celebration of our Dad's life. Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary is located at 1950 E. Dimple Dell Road in Sandy, Utah.
