Janet Featherstone Romney

1924 ~ 2014

Janet Featherstone Romney passed away on November 12th, 2014.

She was born April 8th, 1924 in Logan, Utah. Her parents were Joseph Frederick Featherstone and Annie Marie Snow. At the age of six, her family of nine moved to Salt Lake City, Utah.

She attended kindergarten at Hawthorne Elementary School and then on to Douglas Elementary, Roosevelt Jr. High, East High, and eventually the University of Utah. While at the university, she belonged to the Delta Delta Delta Sorority and to a business sorority, the Alpha Beta Zeta. Later, Janet became a teacher for the comptometer school in Salt Lake City soon after being trained in Madison, Wisconsin in 1943.

On May 24th, 1946 in Salt Lake City, Janet married William Hamlin Romney. They had two children, Melodee and Bill Jr., while living in Salt Lake. In 1958, the family moved to Los Angeles, California.

While in California, The Los Angeles School System opened occupational training centers and employed Janet to teach business computers to immigrants new to the U.S. She taught there day and night for over twenty years. She also taught night school at University High, Banning High, and Compton High. With her experience, she was hired to teach at Pierce Junior College and Pepperdine University as well, even though she didn't have her degree.

In October of 1987, Bill and Janet moved back to Salt Lake City. Bill preceded her in death in May of 1988. She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She held numerous positions and enjoyed serving others. Her greatest joy was being with her family.

She is survived by her children William H. Romney Jr. (Robin Romney), Melodee Romney Ozburn (Craig Ozburn); grandchildren Jennifer Ozburn, Jessica Ozburn Shell (Brian Shell), Melissa Ozburn, Logan Ozburn, Jason Romney (Brittany Romney) Stephanie Romney Shepherd (David Shepherd); and great grandchildren Addison Romney, Landon Romney, Paxton Romney, Andrew Shepherd, Kaitlynn Shepherd, and Anna Shepherd.

Services will be held in Salt Lake City at Larkin Mortuary at 260 East South Temple on Saturday, November 22, 2014. A viewing is scheduled from 9am-11:00am. The service will take place at 11:30. She will be interred at the Salt Lake Cemetery.
