Nyle Keith Walton

1933 ~ 2016

Nyle Keith Walton of Salt Lake City passed away from natural causes on May 24, 2016.He was born in Salt Lake City on October 10, 1933 to Ivan R and Jean Thomander Walton.When he was 14 he read a book written by Richard Halliburton that inspired him to hitch hike around the world.He started at 16, hitch hiking to Mexico City with a friend.Hegraduated from South High School, Class of 1951.He joined the Army in 1954 and was stationed in Europe to continue his adventures.Notice the fabulous picture in front of the Taj Mahal and at the Matterhorn.He attended BYU, University of Utah, Mexico City College, Berkley University and the University of Georgia where he received his PhD in Geography.After finishing his degrees, Nyle landed his dream job with the State Department as a ‘Geographic Specialist', which paid him to continue his travel around the world.He retired and lived in Falls Church, VA where he met his long-time companion Phyllis McDonald, who preceded him in death in 2013.Survived by his siblings Kent L. Walton (Karyl), Janet Nord and Ivan Daniel Walton and many nieces and nephews.Funeral services: Larkin Mortuary 260 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, UtahTuesday May 31, 2016.
