Rosella Lorraine Ashton

1937 ~ 2013

On Sept 21, 2013 Our dear mother passed away at her home in Salt Lake City, UT surrounded by her loving family following a brave and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on July 1, 1937 to Joseph C. Rediger and Sarah Elizabeth Smiley in Bloomington Illinois. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, a sister (Ann Reitz), and a granddaughter (Jessica Rosenlund). She is survived by her eternal companion Clive Ashton, and their children and their spouses Jon (Claudia), DeAnn (Stuart), Carrie (Brett), Paul, David, Steven (Jennifer), Adam (Teresa), and Aaron (Brittni); 19 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, her sisters Delores, Marlene, Verma, and her brother Delmar.

She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when she was 18, and was a devoted member; serving in numerous capacities throughout her life. She truly had the spirit of service to her Heavenly Father and her Savior; accepting a missionary assignment to the Northern States mission as a young woman, and twice more with her husband. She was married in the Manti Utah Temple to Clive Ashton and together enjoyed 50 wonderful years at each other\s side. She enjoyed keeping a journal and researching her family history. More than anything she adored her children and grandchildren always wanting to spend as much time as possible with them whether attending soccer games, graduations, or family gatherings and BBQ\s.

She was a spiritual giant to her family and friends; strengthening all with her faith in God and his divine plan. We cherish and honor her memory, rejoicing at the day when we will be reunited with her as an Eternal family.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the many doctors, nurses, and aids at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital as well as Rocky Mountain Hospice Care for the dedicated service and attention they provided.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Dr. (10600 So.), where a visitation will be held from 11:45-1:45, prior to the services. Interment to follow at the same location. Online condolences may be sent at www.larkinmortuary.com.
