Duane Maynard Rubink

1937 ~ 2016

Duane Maynard Rubink passed away of a massive heart attack on Tuesday, September 6th, in Deer Lodge, Montana. Duane was born the 3rd of February 1937, in Foley, Minnesota, the son of Lawrence and Ella (Frank) Rubink.

When Duane was 11 years old he moved with his family from Minnesota to Prescott, Arizona. He graduated from Prescott High School, and then attended Utah State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Wildlife Management, in 1960. After his graduation Duane married his sweetheart, Sherri Ann Olsen. They've been married for 56 years. Their marriage was sealed in the Logan LDS Temple. Duane served 5 years with the US Navy achieving the rank of Lieutenant, as a helicopter pilot with deployments in Alaska, Hawaii, the Mid-Pacific, Japan, and the Philippines.

After service in the US Navy, Duane was employed by the US Dept. of Interior and the US Dept. of Agriculture in Wildlife Management, working in Montana, Idaho, Utah and as State Director in Arizona. After his retirement, Duane and his wife, Sherrie, served a full-time LDS Mission at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. Duane loved hunting with his boys, horseback riding, and the mountains. He also loved wood-working; creating beautiful wooden intarsia plaques.

Duane is survived by his wife, Sherrie (Olsen) Rubink, Sandy, Utah; four children; Duane Jr. and Crystal (Mix) Rubink, Jerome, Idaho; Charles and Stacey (Rubink) Jones; Sandy, Utah; Daren and Cheryl (Myers) Rubink, Magnolia, Texas; and Dustin and Kelly (Wagner) Rubink, Deer Lodge, Montana; 19 grandchildren and one great grandchild; 3 sisters; Bob and Loretta (Rubink) Piper; Mike and Judy (Rubink) Simington; and Sandra (Rubink) Parker. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Ella (Frank) Rubink; and a brother, Leroy Rubink.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, September 10, at 11:00 am in the LDS Church, 11164 Londonderry Dr., Sandy, Utah; with a viewing from 9:30 to 11:00 before the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Primary Children's Hospital.
