Dan Marlen Cloward
1935 – 2025
Dan Marlen Cloward, age 90, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Born in 1935, in his grandparents’ home in Mount Pleasant, Utah, Dan was the beloved son of Marlen Joseph Cloward and Mary Jean Bjelke. He was raised with a strong work ethic, deep faith, and a quiet determination that would guide him throughout his life.
Dan graduated from North Sanpete High School in 1953 and later earned his degree from Snow College. He proudly served as an Officer in the United States Air Force with the 96th Bomb Wing of the Strategic Air Command, a chapter of his life that instilled in him a lifelong sense of duty and discipline.
Following his military service, Dan built a successful and respected career with Safeco Insurance. Starting as a claims adjuster, he worked his way up to become a Regional Sales Executive, a testament to his integrity, leadership, and steady hand.
Dan married the love of his life, Carolyn, in Elko, Nevada. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with devotion, family, faith, and enduring love.
In his spare time, Dan found joy in the simple things, tending to his garden, growing fruits and vegetables, and taking pride in his yard. He was also deeply committed to his faith and served for 18 years as a temple worker in the Jordan River and Draper Temples, a role he fulfilled with humility and reverence.
Dan is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn Cloward, and their children: daughter Lori Saxton, and sons Dan M. Cloward Jr. (Monica) and John Shane Cloward (Geraline). He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Alexandria Jaramillo (Nathan), Mackenzie Alexander (Adam), Brady Cloward (Megan), Kylie Grant (Garett), and Kaden Cloward (Annalee). Dan was a proud great-grandfather to Finn, Rhett, Crew, Graham, Jackson, and Hudson. He is also survived by his brother, Michael B. Cloward (Fern), and his sister, Suzanne Hansen (John).
He was preceded in death by his parents and other loved ones who welcomed him home.
Dan’s legacy of love, faith, and quiet strength will live on in his family and all who were fortunate to know him. He will be remembered for his kindness, his devotion to family and faith, and his unwavering integrity.
