Obituary

Daniel (Dan) Carl Butz, Age 75, of Salt Lake City passed away August 12, 2026, after a long battle with health issues. He was born November 3, 1950, in Ogden, Utah to Carl P. Butz and Juanita "Nita" Turner Butz Holst.

He was the second of 7 children. He resided in the Salt Lake City, Utah area, except for while serving in the U.S. Navy. He graduated from Kearns High School. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving from 1969 to 1973 in the Vietnam War. Later he worked at Dave Strong Porsche Audi as a mechanic. Also, Snap-on tools in various positions. He was an entrepreneur in many endeavors over the years.

He married Terri Tanner, with whom he had two daughters, Sheris "Sherry" and Mindy; they later divorced. Then he met and married the love of his life, Janice Perkins. They were married for over forty years. She stayed by his side and supported him until the end.

He loved motorcycling and traveling in the country. He was larger than life and could command the attention of a full restaurant with his jokes that everyone enjoyed.

Preceded in death by his mother Juanita "Nita" Holst, father Carl P. Butz, and daughter Mindy.

Survived by his wife Janice "Bucky", brother Joe Butz, sister Sandra (James) Glascock, sister Trudy (Bob) Odum, brother Richard (Carolyn) Butz, sister Lynn (Chris) Chandler, brother Val C. Holst II and daughter Sheris. Also survived by numerous grandchildren, a few great-grandchildren, and several nephews and nieces.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Salt Lake Veterans Affairs Medical Campus for their ongoing care of Dan through the years.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, August 20, 2026 at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy, UT at 12:00 p.m.

Tributes

Dan and I went to the Harley 110th in 2003 together. He was in severe pain then. We took many trips together. He was a great riding partner. He has spare parts and tools and helped anyone he could. Miss you Dan.
