Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away at home on April 9, 2022 surrounded by his loving family after a nine month battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He was born March 1, 1948 in Salt Lake City to Barbara Taft and Frank Loflin, later adopted by Raymond McGrew. Dan was raised in San Francisco and South San Francisco and graduated from El Camino High School in 1966.

He was a proud member of the United States Navy, working on the flight deck of the USS Enterprise. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War where he was a member of the US Naval Construction Battalion, the Seabees. He also served in the Naval Reserve.

Dan married Charlene Blosch on May 1, 1971 and together they had three children; Jason, Patrick (Brenna), and Jane Hamblin (Clayton). They had four granddaughters; Aja Sigourney (Anders), Isabella, Avery, and Kieran Hamblin. Dan was a loving grandfather that could easily be persuaded, and loved it.
He completed a plumbing apprenticeship and went on to earn an associates degree from Salt Lake Community College. Dan worked as a plumber for many years and was a proud member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union. He retired after working as a building engineer for 31 years at “170” (S. Main).

Dan was an avid fly fisherman, outdoorsman, hunter, birdwatcher, and woodworker. He loved spending time outside, working in his garden and making sure his yard was well kept. After retirement he volunteered for many years with the VA and at LeeKay Shooting Range.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Charlene. Beloved children, grandchildren, and twin brother, Philip McGrew (Mary). Preceded in death by his mother, father, numerous aunts and uncles, and loving grandparents Ivan and Alda Taft.

Viewings will be held at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple Salt Lake City, UT on Thursday, April14th from 6-8pm and Friday, April 15th from 10-10:45am, with the service to follow.

McGrew family, the world lost a bright light with the passing of your husband, father and grandfather. Dan was the most extremely hilarious and entertaining person I ever worked with he was always on he toes with sarcastic and funny comebacks in any situation that arose. It was a pleasure to work with him for a number of years at Koch Mechanical. It was always great to run into him and chat at the Wells Fargo building or on Main Street after working with him at Koch. Please accept my condolences. Dangerous Dan McGrew was a great friend and had a life well lived may he Rest In Peace. I’ll never forget him. Ron Mayer
