Obituary

David Tim Miller, age 53, passed away after a courageous battle with liver cancer on June 4, 2026. Born on April 5, 1973 in Murray, Utah, he was known for his infectious laughter, quick wit, and unwavering love for family, friends and sports. He enjoyed spending time fishing and was a devoted fan of the Miami Hurricanes- always proudly cheering, “C-A-N-E-S, CANES!” A faithful member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dave served a mission in Charleston, West Virginia. He earned an associate’s degree from the College of Eastern Utah and later completed his bachelor’s degree at Weber State University.

Dave's passion for wrestling grew into a remarkable gift for mentoring others. As a dedicated coach at Granger High School, he invested countless hours in developing and encouraging young athletes on both the boys' and girls' wrestling teams for more than 10 years. Under his guidance, numerous wrestlers from both programs qualified for and competed at the state level, while the teams consistently achieved top-10 finishes. He took great pride in their accomplishments and in the lasting relationships he built along the way.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Dave especially loved March Madness. Every year, he enthusiastically managed multiple tournament brackets with family and friends, bringing people together through friendly competition and spirited conversations. Dave had a larger-than-life personality. He rarely complained, always had a joke ready, and could find humor in almost any situation. Even during his battle with cancer, he faced challenges with remarkable courage, optimism, and laughter, inspiring those around him with his positive outlook.

He was a loving and fun-filled uncle who delighted in spending time with his nieces and nephews. Whether he was playing games, telling jokes, or surprising everyone by leaping from the high dive at family reunions, Dave had a special talent for creating memories and making people laugh. His joyful spirit, sense of humor, and love for life left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Dave was blessed with a strong and supportive community of family and friends who surrounded him with love throughout his life. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his kindness, resilience, laughter, and the joy he brought to others.

Dave was preceded in death by his grandparents, Max and Emma Miller, and Rex and Betty Christensen; and by his brother, John Miller. He is survived by his loving parents, Garry Tim (Kathryn) Miller and Sharon (Gary) Lacher; his siblings, Richard (Melisa) Miller, Garron (Lorene) Miller, Sherilee (Kirk) Woodward, Stacie (Michael) Tingey, Christen (Noah) Sundberg, Garry (Chantel) Miller, and Brien (Whitney) Miller; as well as his 30 beloved nieces and nephews and 20 great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom brought him tremendous joy.

Family and friends are warmly invited to attend a memorial gathering and Celebration of Life services honoring David Miller at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 5000 West Pavant Avenue, West Valley City, Utah, on Saturday, June 20, 2026. A public memorial gathering will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., followed by the Celebration of Life service from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. If you wish to attend the services virtually you may do so by clicking the "Watch Services" option above.

Dave's family sincerely appreciates the outpouring of love, support, and kindness they have received during this difficult time. They invite all who knew and loved Dave to join them as they gather to remember, honor, and celebrate his life and the lasting impact he had on those around him.

This was my first year working at Lincoln Elementary and David and I instantly became friends. He’d pop into the title 1 room daily to say hi and chat for a bit. We had a lot of interesting and silly conversations. He made me laugh all the time and he was truly such a kind hearted person. You could just feel his bright light and energy. I am going to miss that so much. A sweet soul gone way too soon. Rest easy my friend.

David was like a brother to me. I was lucky to have him as one of my assistant coaches at Granger. David had such a positive impact on anyone that knew him. David was the light and joy that helped our wrestling program reach new heights during our tenure together at Granger High. David was so passionate about wrestling and our Granger wrestling family, he truly cared about all of the wrestlers. He is loved by so many wrestlers during his time coaching. We will miss our friend and coach so much. I will forever be grateful for the time that we shared together on this earth. He is my friend/ brother forever and I will miss him dearly. Thank you David for being a true friend! Love you man!

I’m truly sorry for your loss
I honestly didn’t know Mr.Miller like the other kids at granger. I always saw him in the hallways throughout the school but I never seen him sad, upset or anything like that. He always had a smile on his face, and he was always there encouraging all the kids. it was really infectious because some days that’s all you need. I would see him so happy and that would infect us to be happy as well. He is a good man with a good soul

Sorry for the loss, it almost feels like yesterday I challenged him to wrestle and he swore if I joined he could take me to state. I worked with him at granger while going to school there. He always had something to say and made things fun. Again, so sorry for your loss :(

My favorite memories of Coach Miller was when he was encouraging me to join wrestling and helped me get ready for my first time wrestling. Honestly he was one of my favorite coaches and he helped me improve on and off the mat with school and always encouraged me and told me I was a great wrestler and that I got this even when I would have a hard time with class work. I will forever be grateful for all the times on and off that mat even during really early practices at Granger. if it wasn't for him and his constant encouragement and his funny joke he would tell me and my other teammates I probably wouldn't have kept wrestling he always put a smile on my face and made me laugh. He always lightened the room with his smile and his jokes and constant encouragement and I think if it wasn't for that we probably wouldn't have done so well during Regionals and State in 2022. I will forever be grateful for Coach Miller and everything he has taught me about wrestling.

Once a Lancer Always a LANCER!

thank you Coach Miller for all the great memories! Rest in peace Coach.

I forgot to add when we would have wrestling meets or do good in wrestling practice coach would always tell us he'd bring us pizza and make bets with us if we did good and I remeber once we lost the bet and he said we'll guess you owe me a pizza or a large mountain dew. He was always joking around and smiling I will forever miss him and the fun times we had!

Coach Miller was always the first one to welcome us when we walked in the room. He had an infectious laugh that would make anyone join in. He constantly had a smile on his face and always encouraged us to do our best and to not make excuses. He held us accountable but always said that there will be better opportunities ahead. He wasn't just a coach but he was a friend. I wish i had joined wrestling sooner but I am happy I was able to even know him. Thank you for everything coach. You helped me become the woman I was meant to be. Fly high coach and rest easy. You have earned your rest. Rest in peace❤️🕊

Words cannot express how much I enjoyed when Dave would pop into my classroom to say hi, be sassy with me, make me laugh and leave me with a smile, before he went onto brighten someone else’s day. One day a 3rd grader threw his shoe up on the batting cage and got it stuck while out at recess. I had to call Dave to come out to retrieve it. After assessing the situation, he didn’t go get a ladder, oh no, he climbed the fence to get it. Later during that same recess, another kid got a slap-sticky hand on the backboard of the basketball hoop. So here comes Dave, again, to save the day, but of course had to stop yo ask me “what the hell?”. It was the funniest, damnedest thing that he’d have to rescue items twice in one 20 minute recess. As he walked past me, he said very sassy “Next one, call Kevin!” I laughed so hard. I may still have the picture of him climbing the fence. He was great. He is deeply missed.

He was a great coach and great person to be around. He made me laugh even when we were doing drills that I didn’t like.

I remember the day David was born & the concern and prayers that were offered in his behalf by neighbors and Ward members. I loved watching him grow up and thrive. I was unable to attend the services for him or for John, but watched them via video feed. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Karen Thomson

Dave and I were neighbors and grew up together in the same ward. I will always remember hanging out when we were young and talking about how we couldn’t wait to grow up and learn to drive and do all the fun high school stuff. You touched a lot of lives for the better. God bless you and your family.
