Obituary

David Tim Miller, age 53, passed away after a courageous battle with liver cancer on June 4, 2026. Born on April 5, 1973 in Murray, Utah, he was known for his infectious laughter, quick wit, and unwavering love for family, friends and sports. He enjoyed spending time fishing and was a devoted fan of the Miami Hurricanes- always proudly cheering, “C-A-N-E-S, CANES!” A faithful member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dave served a mission in Charleston, West Virginia. He earned an associate’s degree from the College of Eastern Utah and later completed his bachelor’s degree at Weber State University.

Dave's passion for wrestling grew into a remarkable gift for mentoring others. As a dedicated coach at Granger High School, he invested countless hours in developing and encouraging young athletes on both the boys' and girls' wrestling teams for more than 10 years. Under his guidance, numerous wrestlers from both programs qualified for and competed at the state level, while the teams consistently achieved top-10 finishes. He took great pride in their accomplishments and in the lasting relationships he built along the way.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Dave especially loved March Madness. Every year, he enthusiastically managed multiple tournament brackets with family and friends, bringing people together through friendly competition and spirited conversations. Dave had a larger-than-life personality. He rarely complained, always had a joke ready, and could find humor in almost any situation. Even during his battle with cancer, he faced challenges with remarkable courage, optimism, and laughter, inspiring those around him with his positive outlook.

He was a loving and fun-filled uncle who delighted in spending time with his nieces and nephews. Whether he was playing games, telling jokes, or surprising everyone by leaping from the high dive at family reunions, Dave had a special talent for creating memories and making people laugh. His joyful spirit, sense of humor, and love for life left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Dave was blessed with a strong and supportive community of family and friends who surrounded him with love throughout his life. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his kindness, resilience, laughter, and the joy he brought to others.

Dave was preceded in death by his grandparents, Max and Emma Miller, and Rex and Betty Christensen; and by his brother, John Miller. He is survived by his loving parents, Garry Tim (Kathryn) Miller and Sharon (Gary) Lacher; his siblings, Richard (Melisa) Miller, Garron (Lorene) Miller, Sherilee (Kirk) Woodward, Stacie (Michael) Tingey, Christen (Noah) Sundberg, Garry (Chantel) Miller, and Brien (Whitney) Miller; as well as his 30 beloved nieces and nephews and 20 great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom brought him tremendous joy.

Family and friends are warmly invited to attend a memorial gathering and Celebration of Life services honoring David Miller at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 5000 West Pavant Avenue, West Valley City, Utah, on Saturday, June 20, 2026. A public memorial gathering will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., followed by the Celebration of Life service from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. If you wish to attend the services virtually you may do so by clicking the "Watch Services" option above.

Dave's family sincerely appreciates the outpouring of love, support, and kindness they have received during this difficult time. They invite all who knew and loved Dave to join them as they gather to remember, honor, and celebrate his life and the lasting impact he had on those around him.

This was my first year working at Lincoln Elementary and David and I instantly became friends. He’d pop into the title 1 room daily to say hi and chat for a bit. We had a lot of interesting and silly conversations. He made me laugh all the time and he was truly such a kind hearted person. You could just feel his bright light and energy. I am going to miss that so much. A sweet soul gone way too soon. Rest easy my friend.
