David Albert Stettler

1947 ~ 2023

David Albert Stettler, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 76 on October 24, 2023, due to complications from a stroke. He was surrounded by his family.

Dave was born in Ogden, Utah on May 12, 1947 to Samuel LeRoy and Melba Dransfield Stettler. He made memories during childhood that he looked back on with great fondness throughout his life. One could fill a book with the happy memories of time spent with his parents and four brothers, but some of his fondest included hours spent fishing at 7 mile hole in Yellowstone, the Sunset canal (that served as swimming pool, ice rink, and fish hatchery), and any time he tagged along on adventures - and misadventures - with his older brother Bob.

Dave also learned the value of hard work early in life, working alongside his parents and brothers on the family orchard. Hard work became a defining quality that he applied to every aspect of life.

Dave served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Central Germany mission. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Utah in 1971. He married the love of his life, LaDean Laycock Stettler later that year in the Salt Lake Temple. They enjoyed 52 years together raising three children, traveling, and working on a steady stream of house and yard projects.

Dave’s children and grandchildren were his greatest joy. He offered unconditional love and was always there to teach, help, and console. His impact on their lives is immeasurable and his absence will be felt deeply. Dave was also an ‘honorary’ dad and grandpa to many others. It wasn’t just his contagious smile and sharp sense of humor that drew people to him, but the fact that they knew he genuinely cared.

Dave was a faithful member of the LDS church with a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He practiced his unshakeable faith through selfless love and charity to others. During the last decade of his life, he spent time living in a small branch and ward in beautiful Kentucky. He dedicated those years to serving others and gained friendships he will cherish forever.

Dave is survived by his wife LaDean and three children Lisa (Bryce) Williams, Adam (Megan) Stettler, and Garrett (Elizabeth) Stettler, 5 grandchildren, and brothers Gary (Sherry), Ken (Sheila), and Jim (Angie) Stettler.

He was preceded in death by his brother Bob and his parents.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 30, 11:30 a.m. at the Wasatch Views Ward building, located at 1661 E 980 S, Heber City, Utah. A viewing will begin that same day at 9am. Interment will follow the service in Sandy, Utah at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road.

The family of Dave Stettler are grateful for the outpouring of love and support. He touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Dearest LaDean and family, I want to share my love and gratitude for your example and I will always remember how David was so kind and an amazing and really awesome smile, literally every single time I saw him as a kid he was smiling! He was a happy person and thank you for all that you are. I am sorry to hear about the loss of David and know he will be sorely missed.
Dad always talked about great times with Dave during a hunt or a fish and I know that he was such a huge impact on my Dad. With all the love and light!

This man!

Some of my fondest teen memories are in your home. I watched closely how much he loved you LaDean and how you were all excited when he came home from work. I saw what it meant to be a husband and father and have often reflected and on his example in my own parenting. He’d come home and we’d make a fire in that incredible yard and sit and talk.

Loved being in your home. You both were so welcoming to me. Grateful for your impact in my life. I’m so sorry for your loss. He’s been a hero of mine all these years.
