David LaRell Wilson stepped quietly to the other side of the veil while holding the hand of his beloved wife and eternal companion on the evening of January 30, 2022. David had battled a number of health problems including cancer for many years.

David was the son of George F. Wilson and Dora L. Hall (both deceased.) He is survived by his wife and children: Judy L. Wilson, Kristie (Mike) Earnhart, David (Kelly) Wilson, Michael Wilson, Tawnie Wilson (Cabot Davis), and Marydalene (Jared) Lawrence. He was the proud grandfather of 12 grandchildren: Cameron (preceded in death), Courtney, Caitlyn, Carlee Jo, Callie, Sabrina, Nathan, Emma, Timothy, Sarah, Ryan, and Emily.

David married the love of his life, Judy Lynn Burns, on December 21, 1968 in the Oakland California Temple. To know David at all, you would soon hear him speak of his great love for his wife. And in his den are still displayed many pictures of her at various times throughout their years.

David met Judy at BYU when he was nearly finished with his Bachelors and she was starting her Masters. He graduated with a degree in communications in 1969.

David inherited Leiber’s Disease, a rare disorder that robbed him of most of his eyesight. He began to rapidly lose his eyesight at 19 years old. He lived most of his life without a diagnosis or understanding of how or why this had happened. But he disliked calling attention to himself or for people to feel sorry for him. Many people around him were unaware of the severity of his disability, except for his use of a magnifying glass.

Despite his progressive blindness, David was an accomplished self-taught photographer. He maintained a darkroom in his home for many years. He also won many awards for his photography.

At family gatherings and occasions he wore a camera around his neck. He was a persistent photo documenter. There were occasional moans and groans over his insistence for pictures, but those pictures are now a precious legacy, and an example to be followed.

David loved the Lord. He was a disciple who never wavered in his testimony, despite multiple trials and disappointments over his lifetime. He knew the Lord loved him, and used those great challenges to strengthen his faith. He loved the temple and attended as often as his health allowed.
One accomplishment for which David was particularly proud (aside from marrying his wife and he would literally tell you this,) was in his 40s he decided he wanted to run a marathon. He ran multiple 5k & 10k races, and actually finished 2 marathons.

David also held a great love of music. He often played music in his home. He had large speakers to play the music he loved at great volume. He also encouraged musical development in all his children. He loved all kinds of music especially classic country, tenor opera, church hymns and Christ-centered Christmas music.

Services will be at held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 4, 2022 at the LDS Chapel on 9824 S Flint Drive, Sandy, UT 84094. A viewing will be held from 9:30-10:30 am prior to the services at the church. Interment Larkin Sunset Gardens.

    Dear Judy and Family:

Although due to COVID we haven't seen each other in church for a while, we will miss David's thoughtful and introspective comments in Sunday School. It was very clear that he had a great love for the gospel of Jesus Christ and his family, and he will be sorely missed. He was a highly intelligent man who always had something to share in regards to the gospel or life in general, and we will miss his sense of humor and his perpetual optimism towards life despite all of the obstacles he has gone through.

    With love,

    Daniel and Ruth Anne Herbert-Voss

My Uncle David was one of the most amazing people I've ever met in my life. He was kind and generous. A long time ago he gave my mother, who is his sister, a camera lens to give to me. The only thing he asked her what's not to tell me where it came from.

When I got married on December 19th it was close to his anniversary and yet he still took the time to come to my wedding. He always treated me with respect and never looked down on me. I love him very much and I will miss him and I am just trying to focus on the back that he is in heaven with his loved ones that have gone before them.

    Dear Judy and Family,
We are so sorry for your loss! Uncle David was such a warm and welcoming person! Always full of kindness, helpfulness and giving! We were so thankful to be guests in your home again and again. So many years your family hosted Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas gatherings. Your home is a sanctuary of love and kindness and David’s generous spirit has always been endearing!
Surely he is happy now in a place of peace and rest. We know he did so much family history, and now he must be in 7th heaven- meeting together with family from generations whose names he researched or did temple work for! What a glorious reunion for him!🥰😇💕😇
May God bless you in theses trying months and years without him- as you miss his sweet influence. We’re praying for your peace and your tender hearts at this time! May we all find joy, hope, and consolation in our blessed Savior whose gift of eternal life will surely bring us all together again.
    Love you!
    Rebecca, Gabriel and kids
