David W. Major, our dear friend and father passed away peacefully after a difficult health decline on August 6, 2022 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Born September 27, 1932 in Logan, Utah to Ray Warner Major and Venice Tibbits Major. He married Cleone Houston in Panguitch, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple.

Dave loved his family. He always made a point of taking family, especially his two sons, hunting and fishing, camping, and on numerous family vacations. Sharing his love of skiing was one of his favorites as well. Many ski seasons were devoted to teaching skiing, as well as working at Brighton and enjoying Utah’s powder with his family.

Dave worked at CRS Engineering, then at Kennecott. Following that he because a foreman on the Starvation Dam Construction project. Once the dam was completed, he began a small construction business which over the years became a well-known pipe testing business that not only served the Wasatch Front and Utah area but expanded the West and Northwest as well. Once he retired, Dave and Cleone began traveling throughout the United States and Mexico. They also made journeys to Canada and Alaska.

We will always remember Dave’s quick wit and sense of humor. His twinkling smile was always with us, even as his health declined. Whatever the occasion, Dave could be counted on for a good laugh, and his great smile put a smile on other’s faces as well. May you rest in peace, Dad.

David is survived by his wife Cleone, sons Kevin (Leslie) and Kent (Alice), brother Ken and sister Catherine (Reid), 10 grandchildren and 13 great-granchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Kim, brothers Jack and Lynn and sister Janice.

A special thank you to his mentors Chuck and Ellen Kelley and Marty and Leta Roark.

There will be a visitation Tuesday, August 16, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City, UT. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 East 4580 South, Millcreek, Utah.
