Dell Earl Garner (72) passed away peacefully in his home on July 1, 2022, in Sandy, Utah. He was born October 4, 1949, in the beautiful Teton Valley in Driggs, Idaho. His parents, Henry Andrew, and Ruth Mace Waddell Garner raised him with much love and taught him to be kind and giving. To the end of his days, he remembered and lived those teachings.
Dell attended Olympus High School. There he enjoyed wrestling heavy-weight and playing the tuba in the band. After graduation, he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Gulf States. When he returned home, he met and married Maline Sheppard on July 28, 1972, in the Idaho Falls Temple. They were blessed with three daughters. Sadly, Maline passed away on April 5, 2007. Friends introduced Dell to Jenae Palmer Christensen, and they were married on July 26, 2008, in the Jordan River Temple.
Dell was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many callings, his favorite being Ward Activities Co-Chairmen with Maline. He also loved his home-teaching/ministering assignments. He never found a person he couldn’t get along with. He loved to go hunting, boating, camping, horse riding, and fishing with his friends and family. He also loved to garden and tinker around in his garage. He worked as a long-haul truck driver most of his adult life. He began working for Kennecott in 2007 as a heavy haul driver, retiring in 2018. To keep busy, he was hired on as a substitute bus driver for the Jordan School District. He spent the next three years there until his health prevented him from going on. Dell was always working on a project or looking for someone to serve. Serving his family and friends brought him so much joy.
He is survived by his daughters Ashleigh (Shaun) Macomber, Macee (Terry) Coyle; his wife, Jenae, and her children Lance (Kelsey) Christensen, Brent (Britta) Christensen, Brian Andrew (Lindsay) Christensen, Amy (Jefferson) Hunter, Janalee (Zachary) Truscott, 26 grandchildren; his brother, David (Verda); brother-in-law, Fred Staker; and sister, Irene Schiers. Preceded in death by his parents, wife, Maline, daughter, Charrisse, brother, Jay, sister, Mary Staker, and sister-in-law, Marcia.
Funeral services will be held July 12, 2022, at 10:30 am, at the Crescent South Stake Center, 275 East 10600 South, Sandy. Friends and family may call on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road, Sandy, Utah, and Tuesday from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at the church. Internment next to Maline at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E Dimple Dell Road, Sandy. Thank you to Rocky Mountain Hospice for the care they gave.
