Dennis Keith Scott

Dennis Keith Scott, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and faithful disciple of Jesus Christ, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2026, in Sandy, Utah, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 78 years old.

Dennis was born on March 20, 1948, in Castro Valley, California, to Edgar Keith Scott and Marjorie Aurelle Jensen Scott. He grew up in Castro Valley and graduated from Castro Valley High School before continuing his education at Brigham Young University.

Dennis was an entrepreneur at heart and built two successful businesses during his life, one in home building and another in the medical products field. Even up to his death, he was working on a business that would help those in 3rd world countries have sustainable energy. He was hardworking, creative, and willing to take the risks necessary to build something of his own.

His faith in Jesus Christ was one of the most important parts of his life. Dennis served faithfully in many Church callings, including as a bishop, but his favorite calling was serving with the Young Men as a Scout leader. He loved working with the youth and had a natural ability to teach, encourage, and help others become better. He had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and loved his Savior deeply. He tried to live his life as a true disciple of Jesus Christ through his service and love for others.

But above all, Dennis loved his family.

He had a unique ability to make every person feel important. He loved you unconditionally, even before he met you. He loved whatever you loved. If you were excited about something, Dennis was excited with you. When one of his children, grandchildren, or other family members experienced success, he was genuinely thrilled for them. His familiar “Yippee!” was often his way of celebrating right alongside them.

Dennis was the kind of person you could count on. He was always there. He supported his family, served others, gave generously, and would quite literally give you the shirt off his back. He always seemed to have a lesson to teach, a piece of wise counsel to offer, or a way to turn an ordinary moment into a teaching moment.

He loved being involved in the lives of his family and attending the kids' events. He loved working out, camping, watching movies, spending time with family, and being in the mountains. In fact, Dennis spent the majority of his life living next to the mountains in Sandy Utah. He was a passionate BYU, Utah Jazz, San Francisco 49ers, and the College of the Sequoias Giants fan. But of all the places he loved, nowhere compared to the mountains, Snowbird, or the Temple. And more than any particular place, Dennis's favorite place was simply wherever his family was.

Those who knew Dennis knew that his greatest priorities were his family and the gospel of Jesus Christ. He often reminded his family to love one another, love Jesus Christ, and love Heavenly Father. As he neared the end of his life, that message became even more important to him. He wanted his family to remain close, love each other, and take care of one another.

Dennis leaves behind a family who will carry that message forward and who will forever be grateful for the love, laughter, lessons, and memories he gave them.

Dennis is survived by his children:

Cari Luger (Timothy Luger), Zac Scott (Kit Scott), Andrea Johnson, Jake Scott (Oakley Scott), Laurie Scott, Jesse Scott (Alison Scott), Rachelle Rowan, Candisse Bradley (Royce Bradley), and Lyndsey Horn (Dennis Horn).

He is also survived by his grandchildren:

Deven Hastie; Isiah Rivera; John Rivera-Salem; Nick Johnson (Lauren Phillips); McKay Johnson (Lacey Frost); Drexton Scott; Remi Scott; Kylie Scott (Sini Tauauve’a); Christian Scott; Henley Scott; Holland Scott; Monson Scott; Sierra Eberhart (Andrew); Xavier Bradley; Josh Rowan; Katelyn Horn, Kassydie Horn, Kaeson Horn, and Kobe Horn.

His great-grandchildren include:

Emorie Johnson, Jonah Johnson, Xylin Scott-Tauauve'a, Luna Marie, Rhea Rowan, and Camden Rowan.

Dennis is also survived by his sisters, Linda Bacher and Sue Benton, along with countless nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends who loved him dearly.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Keith Scott and Marjorie Aurelle Jensen Scott and granddaughter McKenzie Scott.

Dennis leaves behind more than a family, he leaves behind a legacy of love. He taught those around him to work hard, serve others, have faith, celebrate one another's successes, and most importantly, to love their family. His greatest wish was that his family would stay close and take care of one another. His voice, his laughter, his “Yippee!” and his constant reminder that he was there for us will remain with us always. While we will miss him more than words can express, we are grateful for the knowledge that through Jesus Christ, this goodbye is not forever. We love you, Dad. Until we meet again.
