Stephen Ralph Bunting was called home to his Father in Heaven on February 1, 2014, after a brief battle with cancer. Steve was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 19, 1949, to Eldrid S. Bunting and Roslyn W. Bunting. He grew up in Salt Lake City, graduating from East High School and later from Brigham Young University where he became a lifelong Cougar fan. He served an honorable mission for the LDS church in Brazil. He also toured with the BYU International Folk Dancers for several years. While at BYU, he met Valerie Hall, the love of his life. They were married in the Manti Temple on May 25, 1972.
Steve worked in the family construction business alongside his father, and mentor, and most recently with his son, Chad. He spent many years and countless hours serving the youth of the Great Salt Lake Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He greatly loved the boys he served as well as the many men and women with whom he served.
Steve is survived by his loving wife Valerie Hall Bunting, father Eldrid S. Bunting, and children, Melissa Walker (Paul), Heather Robinson (Scott), Chad Bunting (Jordan), and Troy Bunting. He adored his grandchildren Matthew, Afton, Halle, Nora, Garrett, Lucas, Maycie, and Jonah. He is preceded in death by his daughter Melinda.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Primary Children's Hospital or the Boy Scouts of America. Services will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Corner Canyon 5th Ward Chapel, 13006 South Boulter Street, Draper, UT. Viewings will be held on Wednesday night from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) Sandy, UT. and on Thursday from 10:00-10:45 AM prior to services at the Ward. Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
