Dona Irene West

1933 ~ 2023

Dona Irene West, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend, died peacefully in her sleep on August 17, 2023. She was born to Ezra and Irene Zina Miller on February 4, 1933 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Dona was the youngest of 5 children.

After graduating from Granite High School in 1951, she married her soulmate, John Marcus West on September 4, 1951.

Dona’s many interests included flower arranging, genealogy, knitting, baking, playing the piano and swimming in her beautiful Siesta Drive swimming pool.

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, she enjoyed giving service through a variety of church positions. Primary Pianist, Homemaking Leader, Visiting Teacher and singing in the Ward Choir were among her favorites. She enjoyed researching family histories for our family as well as anyone that enlisted her help to solve a” family mystery.” Even after she moved to Legacy Village, she continued to give service by mending clothing for people or teaching others to knit or crochet. She said giving service brought her much joy.

She loved to get “dressed up” with a fashionista style including the perfect piece of jewelry to complete the “look”. Her “homemade rolls” were a favorite of every child and adult at family meals and any neighbor was delighted to receive her English Toffee during the holiday season. Dona was always very sweet, a great listener and relished in receiving a compliment for a job well done. She was also never afraid to give you her opinion on any subject.

She is survived by her children, Marc Curtis West (KayeLynn) and Lisa Dene West, 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband John (2007), son Chad (2021), parents and siblings.

Thank you to the many people at Legacy Village and Symbii Hospice for the care and support given to our mom during these past few months.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, August 25, 2023 at the Sunset Larkin Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy, Utah. Friends and family may call at 12:30pm prior to the service. Flowers are welcome to be delivered to this location. Graveside services to follow at 2:00pm at the Sandy City Cemetery, 700 East 9000 South Sandy, Utah.

We love you and we will miss you “Dona with one “N” …………..
You are and will always be “Memorable”
