Donald Dean Corum

Donald Dean Corum, our father passed away July 24th, 2026 in Sandy, Utah at the age of 86.

One of three brothers, he was born in Glendale, California on May 13th, 1940 to Leona Stirling and Mitchell Corum.

He served in the Navy for 4 years on the USS Piedmont, which was a Dixie-class destroyer tender built during World War II for the United States Navy. Her task was to service destroyers in battle areas and to keep them fit for duty.

Donald married his childhood friend, Joyce Aills Corum, after serving in the military. They had 2 children in California and 4 more after moving to Utah, which became their permanent home.

Donald was a very hard worker, having learned many skills throughout his life. He owned his own business, built many things, and was very creative with wood. He built his free-standing garage by hand from the ground up. There wasn't anything he couldn't fix, and he always had a tool for the job. He loved to camp and go fishing. He taught his kids and grandkids to fish and where all the good spots are.

He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and being a member was very important to him. He faithfully honored his Priesthood throughout his life. He served 2 missions as a service missionary with his wife, worked in family history research, and was a temple worker. He had a profound love for the gospel and was a great example to his family.

He had a unique sense of humor, which I think few got to see. He was incredibly witty, armed with the best comebacks and one-liners. He was a man of few words, a gentle soul, and had a very big heart.

Donald is survived by his children, Robert Corum, Sarah Hill, Jennifer Beardall, and Richard Corum.

Donald is preceded in death by his wife Joyce Corum, his daughter Sorcha Arvidell, his son James Corum, his brothers Melvin and Larry Corum, and his parents.

A viewing will be held on Friday, July 31st at 10:00 AM at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary (1950 E. 10600 S., Sandy, Utah). Following the viewing there will be a simple graveside service at 11:00 AM.

The unwavering kindness, patience, and dedication meant the world to us during his time there. Your loving care not only provided him with comfort and dignity but also gave our family great peace of mind. Truly, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
