Donn Raymond Chytraus

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Donn Raymond Chytraus, passed away at his home on September 22nd, 2026. He was a gentle giant with a loving heart who was best known for his dry humor and for enjoying a joke with others.

He was born to Raymond and Ruth Chytraus on December 7th, 1944, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He attended Uintah Elementary School, where he met his lifetime best friend Tom in 2nd grade. Then he attended Roosevelt Junior High and East High School, where he played soccer for the high school team.

He spent most of his life being an HVAC serviceman. He learned the trade from his father and then taught his own sons that hard work and honesty are attributes to live by. He also believed in playing hard as a family after working hard because family was most important to him.

He was a lifetime active member of the Church of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served a mission in New Zealand. After returning home from his mission, he shared the joy of the gospel by baptizing his father, Raymond, into the church. He continued serving as a Sunday school teacher, primary teacher, and by helping his wife Joy with all of her church service as well. He and Joy were married in 1975 and were sealed for all time and eternity 10 years later. They were blessed to spend 51 beautiful years together.

He has reunited in Heaven with his mother Ruth, his father Raymond, his brother Clark, and his special daughter Chrissy.

He is survived by his eternal love, Joy; his children: John, Neil (Alisa), Danielle, and Dean (Ashley); and his 12 grandchildren, with 3 grandchildren added to the family. He often said that he “only had kids to get the grandkids.”

The funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 1st, 2026, at the Crescent 10th Ward building at 10945 S. 1700 E. Sandy, UT. Viewing from 10:00-11:45 am and funeral service at 12:00 pm.
